The biggest blunder the Pegulas made was firing GMTM for not firing Bylsma. A Conn Smythe Selke winning caliber player would still be here and Trotz probably would be our coach. Botterill completely FUBAR’d the organization. Team should be gearing up for Round robin play with GMTM at the helm. Botts has to be the worst GM in the history of sports. |

Gerbe...for what it's worth, I'm starting to believe you. In fact, I'm going to start believing everything you say (rumor-wise) over other people here. At least your rumors/facts are clearly more hopeful than the endless b!thing and moaning and depressing banter from the other guys here. It's getting too g-damn depressing in here and we could use some different points of view. At the very least, your explanations make me feel better. I'm just so sick of the "Kim sucks, Terry sucks, this GM sucks, that GM sucks" etc ...
Keep up the positivity and alternative points of view/facts, thank you. This board could use that.

Bulldog from WGR publicly stated Pegula in the case of 6K doesn't want to wait for development and doesn't understand why they cant play now.
Pegual wants the kids here, he wants them playing in the big club and does not want them to follow the dev path. - ImThatGuy

Can you present a positive view on this team about anything? Serious question, what is good about the Buffalo Sabres right now, besides Jack Eichel.
The negativity sucks, but what can you expect with the current state of the team, no playoffs for 9 straight years, it’s hard to find things to be happy about, without being completely ignorant of what is happening with the team. |

Dahlin, Cozens, Joker, Olofsson, Sam (hopefully on a good deal), 2020 first and second round picks, UPL/Portillo, Bryson, Laaksonen, Pekar.
Hope to god Samuelsson and Johnson end up as top 4 type blue liners to ease the pain of not grabbing a Brink/Kaliyev or a Hoglander/Robertson |

Believe what you want but I know the only reason he picked that deal was for tage and then he shoved him down our throat when he didn't even deserve to make the team - gerbe75pts
What was reported at the time was BOTTS wanted Thomas, but STL wouldn't budge and BOTTS settled for Tage.

I get hope for the younger players, but it’s hard to look at them with a lot of hope with what has happened with guys like Tage and Casey.
I really hope we see better protection and deployment of our top prospects under this new GM |

The only way the deployment improves is an improved roster with greater depth, i.e. a true, quality 2nd line.
That and the coach employing a better style and deploying the best players more instead of playing the safe, conservative favorites. |

I like the positivity, but even a casual fan with no use for rumors can see how the Pegulas have absolutely boondoggled this franchise.
I'm also one of the few that has cautious faith in Adams' approach. |

I'm with you and cautious faith in Adams.
I'm still having a hard time understanding how a franchise with eichel, skinner , oloffson and dahlin cant find 16 other competent nhl players?

you tank a year to get dahlin, and get dahlin
and then 2 years later Jack is playing at an all star level, you add a Jeff Skinner and literally your record is almost the same as when you fired Tim Murray
this is not defending Murray, but you add the best d prospect in 20 years and eichel matures into a complete hockey player and the next step for the team is not taken
tank for eichel and three years later, just as bad
and the future doesn't look as bright as it should be right now considering we have been rebuilding since 2007 |

This is what gets me, we go through the tanks the bad seasons and nothing really looks anymore promising than when we drafted Jack in 2015. At least the senators get two top five picks and have one of the better farm systems to show for their terrible hockey teams. And they were a goal away from the finals in 2017, three years that team is looking like it’s going to be very good in short order. |

Adams definitely has some work to do no doubt.
I don’t believe Ullmark is a finished product by any means and I think he has room to grow. I don’t know about Hutton but if we can find a capable 1B I think we are set to get better there.
We have only seen glimpses of Dahlin and Joker’s potential. These guys are going to be studs for a long time. I believe we’ll see a better Olofsson as well as he really didn’t catch on at 5v5 till shortly before his injury.
Bringing in a natural Center whom doesn’t throw up all over himself (even if it is not typical 2C quality) will be enough to get Skinner at least producing respectably. Cozens is an NHL body whom will upgrade the middle 9.
Mojo and Kahun can make up 2/3 of a 3rd line that is better then any we’ve had in several years.
It’s more of a quality over quantity thing at this point. Get that 2C that bumps the rest of the forwards into their respective slots and that will help. |

Prob is Skinner scored 13 goals. A lot was puck luck, lack of a good 2C but, when Girgenson scores at a similar rate that's a huge problem.
Main issues that have to be addressed: PK which was horrible, a center for skinner, back up goalie (Ullmark was okay, not the problem), defensive system - conservative dump in tyle + playing guys on the offside, which they clearly couldn't handle.
I'm an eternal optimist, but correct a couple of these and get some production from the younger kids (Cozens, euro import) and the team will compete for the playoffs. Problem is, the rest of the conference isn't standing pat

You’re right, Boston isn’t going to get any younger and Tampa/Toronto’s cap problems aren’t going anyway either (those teams will have to subtract from their rosters)
It’s fair to be scared of Detroit and Ottawa but they still have a few years to cook still.
I’ve had this offseason bookmarked for Botts to turn it around, now it’s Adams.
Time to make some moves. Just don’t trade the 8th OA pick is all I ask.

Agreed, the draft is too talented in the top 10 to trade the pick. I think the guy you get at 8 will be better in 3 years (I know...3 years) than anybody you could trade 8oa for, as long as you don't f up the pick; which with the Sabres is a concern. hopefully the pick will pick itself, by who's chosen in front of them, like what happened with Cozens. If 2 D go in the top 7 we're really golden; if only 1 we're still fine |
