Agreed, the draft is too talented in the top 10 to trade the pick. I think the guy you get at 8 will be better in 3 years (I know...3 years) than anybody you could trade 8oa for, as long as you don't f up the pick; which with the Sabres is a concern. hopefully the pick will pick itself, by who's chosen in front of them, like what happened with Cozens. If 2 D go in the top 7 we're really golden; if only 1 we're still fine - turbo044
They're in an ideal position at pick 8 as they'll have their choice of at least 2 very promising players, and even if one of those is the defenseman Drysdale, he'd be the RHD pair for Dahlin for a long time, or the anchor for the 2nd pair. |

All moves
Should be
On the table - TheSabresTaco
Nope.
Trade the 8th OA pick and you’re stuck with your thumb in your butt watching a top 6 forward play for another organization for the next 10 years.
All for what ? Whom are we acquiring that is worth that pick ?
I’m sure Devils fans are thrilled they traded Bo Horvat for Cory Schneider |

So one bad move makes it impossible to reasonably trade the pick. Got it. |

I can't imagine a Cirelli or Point is going to be moved for the 8th overall as the focus of the trade package, and the 8th overall should not be a throw in this year. |

In 2012 the Penguins traded J. Staal to the Canes for the 8th pick Derrick Pouliot (bust), Brian Dumolin (good), and Brandon Sutter.
Trouba amd Flip Forsberg went 2 out of the 3 next picks after Pouliot. Even with Pouliot being a bust the Pens won 2 cups with Dumolin in their top 4.
In 2011 the CBJ’s traded the 8th overall pick (Sean Couturier) and Voracek to the Flyers for Jeff Carter. Columbus ended up trading Carter to LA for Jack Johnson and a first.
In 2001 the Islanders traded for Alexi Yashin giving up 2nd OW (Jason Spezza) and Chara.
So including the Schneider deal, those are the most recent deals including top 10 picks and how many worked out for the team giving up the pick ? |

Spend $100M in the scouting department instead of free agency and you’ll be good for winning a cup every 15 years minimum. |

Not if Terry's the one hiring. Been down that path already. So much success. I agree with the concept, not the results. |

Gerbe...for what it's worth, I'm starting to believe you. In fact, I'm going to start believing everything you say (rumor-wise) over other people here. At least your rumors/facts are clearly more hopeful than the endless b!thing and moaning and depressing banter from the other guys here. It's getting too g-damn depressing in here and we could use some different points of view. At the very least, your explanations make me feel better. I'm just so sick of the "Kim sucks, Terry sucks, this GM sucks, that GM sucks" etc ...
Keep up the positivity and alternative points of view/facts, thank you. This board could use that. - kritter65

Not sure why you need the megaphone, but we all agree with you, however, the reality is a player that would be worth trading the 8th overall pick for, like Cirelli or Point, is not available, and I'm not trading the 8th overall for Monahan, RNH, or a similar player. |

Sure, and by trading Lucic and Hamilton for futures the Bruins could have owned the NHL for the next 10 years if they made the right picks.
How that GM has a job is beyond me.

I mean Monahan would be pretty great but I understand the likelihood of the asset returning has a good chance to be worse than the pick. But then again, it could be Alex Nylander for Sean Monahan. Just saying. |

No chance Drysdale makes it to 8, BUT if he did you either (a) run to the podium and draft him or (b) Trade that pick for someone you never expected you could trade him for |

Prob is Skinner scored 13 goals. A lot was puck luck, lack of a good 2C but, when Girgenson scores at a similar rate that's a huge problem.
Main issues that have to be addressed: PK which was horrible, a center for skinner, back up goalie (Ullmark was okay, not the problem), defensive system - conservative dump in tyle + playing guys on the offside, which they clearly couldn't handle.
I'm an eternal optimist, but correct a couple of these and get some production from the younger kids (Cozens, euro import) and the team will compete for the playoffs. Problem is, the rest of the conference isn't standing pat - turbo044
Good post
Gurgs shouldn't score 1 or 2 less goals than skinner on a season.
2c is gonna be cozens. How many #1 ranked outside the nhl prospects cant slip in behind jack at 1c and play with skins and Johansson. Especially if the season starts late.

More pressure being a female president and allowing any kind of bad behavior.
Few appreciate her stance, but I do.
Makes her look worse being a one of the few woman in sports , if she doesnt respond to sexual allegations.
