I think Cozens should be eased in as the 3rd line center and not rushed in as the 2nd line center like Mitts and if later on in the season he is ready then move him to 2nd if they haven't dealt for one. - GilPerreault11
I like this approach as well. I'm a bit worried about the cost of a real 2c though.

Wouldn't that have been one of the first parts of the discussion for the foundation of a deal, whether the Sabres would pay the bonus that was coming up or push it off on the other team? - GilPerreault11

Yeah, and too much rumor being taken as fact. Sometimes you have to use a little common sense. |

Chad Dedominicis from DBTB has said numerous times that the Sabres were negotiating with the Canes and Coyotes for ROR and it involved Lindholm from the Canes and Domi from the Yotes.
Both budget teams who wouldn’t pay the bonus. Once the Sabres told them they weren’t paying the bonus those two teams made moves and Botts was stuck - sbroads24
Who cares about $7.5m he’ll just drill another well. Oh, wait....

Which brings me back to my horse and cart analogy from last year.
We spent $9M on a cart but don’t have the horse to pull it.

???
That horse is a friggin Clydesdale, called Jack Eichel.
We don't have a Coach who knows how to maximize his roster. |

The Center doesn't have to be a 'real 2C', as those are basically unavailable.
The Center only needs to be a quality one, so they can take the pressure off Eichel and Cozens, and to allow Cozens preferred matchups.
The list of Centers who fit that bill are large (Henrique, Bonino, Backlund, etc.). |

Totally agree on the coach.
Start next season with the following, if needed as the basis:
Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart
Oloffson - Johansson-Cozens - Kahun
Then find three players, or two if you are using Johansson on the wing, for another quality line.
It's not rocket science, and they knew who they need to use as far as trade bait to get the forwards they have badly needed for more than 2 years now. |

Eichel did more then ok without Skinner last time I checked.
Our problem was not finding a 2C.

Yup.
For as much as I caused a falling out several weeks/months ago...I apologize.
You and I are virtually lockstep in our Sabres thoughts.
I hope you would accept my apology, as I really meant nothing personal.
In any event, you are spot on here. A Bonino, Haula type acquisition would be great for a couple / three seasons...start Cozens at 3C for a bit, moves him up when appropriate. The acquired C then falls to 3C to the end of his contract..by then hopefully Asplund, Davidson, Mitts can take that roll on.
Peace. |

100% agree...but in this context IF, and only if you and Krueger insist on playing Skinner and Jack apart. That would be appropriate when you secure said 2C.
Skinner is a finisher, not a playmaker nor play driver...this team needs more of both..hence, yes I would expect nothing less than Jack to thrive and Ski ner to barely survive when separated without a play-driving 2C. |

I don’t think you’re getting a top ten pick if you have to include skinner. |

since Gerbe went on his rant about the Pegulas from others, I ask this question
it's really a simple question, so no need to stay off topic
in the 9 plus seasons since Terry and Kim bought the sabres, what have they done right regarding the sabres
thanks in advance for your answers

Yeah, and too much rumor being taken as fact. Sometimes you have to use a little common sense. - GilPerreault11
When 2+2 =4 it adds up.
They traded him 2 hours before the bonus kicked in.
The rumors were there were 4-5 teams interested and 3 of them were the Yotes, Canes, and Habs.
All 3 of those teams made center trades. 2 of those teams are small budget and wouldn’t be able to pay a 7.5 bonus. The Habs GM admitted they were in talks for ROR but they wouldn’t give up what Buffalo wanted which is rumored to be the third pick.
So Botterill is asking for a top 3 pick from one team, but wants spare parts from another?
St. Louis was the only team left standing. |

Great line from the movie Midway that speaks well to this situation...when Nimitz asked his Intelligence leader ... "Do we know for sure?"
"No, but we can use clues. If a rumor of a large wedding is heard, and the fanciest restaurant is booked, with the best band booked...we have a good idea of a wedding date time and place, but we can't say for certain." ( paraphrasing rather than direct quite).
It could be false, sure. Very likely it is true though. - IonSabres
Its actually more likely that it is false. Since it is just made up. |
