C'mon man, that contract was never meant to be played out. If it was there would have been restructuring (in the player's favour) over the last few years.
The real shame about that contract is that after it was approved by league offices it was subject to different rules. If the contract isn't fair, just reject it. Don't punish it later by saying it circumvented league rules, stay ahead of that poop.
The deal would never have been signed, maybe he would have signed a different deal and maybe we would have had to press on with Schneider/FA. - golfingsince
True and NHL CBA amendments this time around to recapture still screws the Canucks and aids other teams in line to get hit more. It just goes to show you this franchise doesn't have clout or get any breaks on NHL rulings.

Maybe it was never intended to be played out under the then CBA. The recapture was bs as it wasn’t a rampant issue in the league at the time. Yes bs to make it retroactive. |

Yeah he had hip problems but from what I read he couldn't go on LTIR during the window the Panthers needed to sign Panarin and Bryz in free agency. The Canucks had the last laugh over getting stung with recapture by helping out the Rangers clear room to sign Panarin away from the Panthers.
What really sucks more is that the NHL during this new CBA amendment to recapture didn't do anything that would help the Canucks and it would help teams like the Wild and Preds instead. - NuckUp
Help me out here, I am truly trying to understand what you mean by the bolded. |

Sorry was busy cooking... see below in detail if you don't want to read the artice ... seems the chuckle heads thought you were trying to troll me as they are too cool for school...
"Canucks general manager Jim Benning decided to buy out Ryan Spooner to create a smidgen of added cap space.
The Spooner buy out had a knock-on effect. When Spooner was traded by the New York Rangers to the Edmonton Oilers — the Oilers would later flip Spooner to the Canucks — the Blueshirts agreed to retain US$900,000 of his salary on their own cap budget. The Canucks’ buyout of Spooner reduced his Rangers cap hit to US$300,000.
According to the New York Post’s Larry Brooks, that US$600,000 savings proved to be the difference maker in the Rangers, not the Panthers, as most had expected, securing Panarin’s signature. It allowed the Rangers to bump up their offer by just over US$600,000 per season."
This was done because Canucks were shocked at Luongo retirement over LTIR move. It ended up costing the Panthers Panarin bid so yeah Canucks got stung but they screwed over the Panthers in screwing them.

I did read the article, thanks.
I would think the guys chuckling, were just as confused at what you meant as I was.
Wonder if the Rangers now owe Benning a favour? |

I don’t agree it cost the Panthers whatsoever. 600k isn’t the difference in a tax free state. He wasn’t going to Florida but used them as leverage. |

Great in case others don't. Not sure if there was any talk over this between them or just a domino effect.
But if there was something there maybe Larsson, a center which Canucks could use depth on, who wants out of Rangers gets traded over on a swap deal for like a Canuck B prospect. |

If he didn’t come off as so temperamental he might worth consideration. Imo he’s overrated & sits at a 3C ceiling. |

NYC where the Rangers are based out of is a triple tax income jurisdiction. So that extra money like Brooks reported made the difference for the Rangers not Panthers. Russians like Miami just as much as NYC. But you are right leverage is always a factor in negotiations. The thing is because of cap space the Rangers could only go so far and what the Canucks did on the Spooner buy out helped them boost their offer. |

yeah oops typo... still cooking... distracted... lol. He was the Rangers consolation prize for trading to move up to try to get Petey. He was doing well until he got to the Rangers system. So maybe he just needs a new home with a patient club like the Canucks.

Rather get the 7th rounder back for that trade for Mazanec(sp?), the goalie from a couple years back. |
