I kind of feel that its exaggerated how much of a detriment was as a coach with the Rangers but I also fail to see the appeal he has to the Devils and all their youngsters.
Weird hire, but they can have him. - jimbro83

I'm not saying it's a good trend, but at least in division it seems like the pendulum might be swinging back to more old school style coaches. You look at what Trotz has done in winning the cup and then seemingly turning over the fishsticks and I suppose you could call AV a somewhat old school coach who has the Flyers looking better. Torts has changed drastically, but yeah there's another one.
I think the game has passed Ruff by too, but I think this may be a trend in the league hiring these experienced hands again. |

Agreed. Maybe he didn't want to live anywhere near that cesspool sh1thole that is Newark. |

Hey, Newark is going through a revitalization. There are only a couple murders a day now. |

Funny thing is I know a lot of devils fans but not many of them go to games. North jersey tends to be dominated by Rangers fans, south west by Flyers fans, they should have built the arena in the middle of the state. |

I always wondered this myself. An arena in Trenton for a team called "New Jersey" just seems to perfect. I wonder though if the Flyers have any right to veto such a move since I think that is considered their territory.
The other idea is I always wondered why they didn't try to get an arena in Atlantic City. That seems like a pretty good spot for them with several easy ways to get to/from there and away from the shadow of the NYC area. |

The Athletic ranked all NHL arenas based on several factors. Prudential Center was 28, Nassau Mausoleum was 30, and Barclays was 31.
MSG was rated 3, which I don't get. They rated the atmosphere there as very good. It must have been a playoff game when they took that into consideration. |

Lindy Ruff will be leaving the Rangers effective immediately. Gord Murphy will be coming up from Hartford to fill the vacancy on the Rangers' bench.
Like having Murphy there. Experience in NHL as defenseman and maybe a fresh voice in the room and on the bench. |

Very true. That’s the difficulty in putting in a team where there were basically 3 other well established teams within a 90 mile drive. And 2 of them had cup wins within the 6-7 years prior to the Devils relocating to NJ. Without the cup wins we would probably be in another city already. |

Yes, but still not large enough to equate to having a packed house every night |

Yeah, but that is more to do with the location. Its not as bad as the Panthers, but my buddy in FL said they have a big following but no one wants to go out to the Arena in the middle of nowhere |

I went to the draft when it was there. It's not as much as it's in the middle of nowhere, but instead imagine driving in a suburban neighborhood and then randomly an arena is there. I've never seen anything like it. |

In terms of contemporary stuff, yeah you're right. During draft week I actually vacationed is the villages of Weston, there was a ton of stuff I felt you could do daily. I'm sure that doesn't play well in the do stuff after the game club.
I always wondered why they never got an arena with the Heat, which is in a much better location. |

Big update! Thanks, Jan.
This seems weird to me, though. I would have bet anything that the move wouldn't take place until the 2019-20 season was wrapped up one way or another. |
