So the city of Seattle recently passed a law taxing companies that employ workers making over a $150K per year anywhere from 0.7 to 2.4%. (Government agencies exempt from the tax.) Assuming the Seattle franchise will have 20 plus players and numerous employees making over 150K, conservatively the total effected payroll will be over $80M. Figure 80M is at the 2.4% high end of the tax bracket, so the owner of the Seattle franchise just got hit with about a $2M expense for doing business there.

Put the Seattle team on the far southwest side from the city and call them the White stockings...

Think he meant Boeing.

If he meant the Hawks, which I doubt, they started in Portland as the Rosebuds.

Oilers roster for the RTP.

Putting aside the obvious in McDavid and Draisatl, a few Oilers who could be a handful for the Hawks are Yamamoto (waterbug who can kill you offensively), Athanasiou (disruptive, game-breaking speed), and Kassian (ultra physical pest with some skill).

Also, don't count out Nugent-Hopkins, Neal, and Khaira.

Then there's the infamous Smith in net. Too bad Shaw can't play and get under his skin.

Just make sure White Stockings isn't the name of some Native American tribal leader.

That guy may be the most over-rated player in the league. Speed is all he has for the most part.

Kassian will negate any good he brings with his stupidity. Ebony isn't going to like this but the Hawks are beating the Oilers.

About 24 hours for NHLers to opt out of playing. So far no Hawks, knock on wood. If anyone out there is a betting person, who do you think would be the most likely Hawk to choose not to play?
I would select Crawford. New youngster at home I hear and he always struck me as the type that marches to a different drummer.

I would have to agree with you, boiler. Crawford for the reasons you stated.

If that's the case, the 3 goalies traveling to the RTP series are Subban, Delia, and Lankinen. Tomkins with an outside shot of supplanting one of them.

That could very well be the case with both Athanasiou and Kassian. They could render themselves ineffective on their own. But if they play within their means and up to potential, they could be thorns in the side of the Hawks.

Neither have shown any real ability to play up to potential, Theo. They are what they are at this point.

I still think Colitton should go with young guys. Get Hagel, Kurashev, Carlsson and Beaudin in for useless vets like Smith, Special K, Maatta. Heck, even Entwhistle over Carpenter.

We know what those bums can do.

I am throwing caution to wind and having some fun with it.

Of course, if Crow doesn't play, it doesn't matter who plays. IIRC, Lanky won't be ready for this. I roll with Delia or Tompkins. Subban isn't part of the future here so he can sit his ass on the bench.

If the Hawks beat the Oilers and go on to win the Cup - I'll be happy to have been wrong. If, however, they beat the Oilers and get bounced in the next round, which I think is far more likely than winning another series, let alone 3 more series - I will consider it a missed opportunity to get either Lafreniere or a pretty good pick at #9 or #10.

It would be nice to get Lefrenniere (sp?) - one in seven chance.

They’d get a good puck at 9 or 10.

But look at some recent overall #1s:

McDavid - 5 years in the league, one postseason
Eichel - 5 years, none
Matthews - 4 years, never out of the first round
Tavares, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Yakupov, MacKinnon, Ekblad - not much going on in Mays or Junes.

Play to win - cheer for your team to win - no matter the circumstances. The drafts will sort themselves out.
