Mika is as good if not better and cheaper. I wouldnt even 1 for 1 them

Disagree. Eichel is 3 years younger and doesn't have concussion history like Zibby.

The funny thing about all those trade proposals is that none of them include a goalie! Buffalo is in dire need of a starting goalie, and first pairing defenseman.

This from the organization that valued Jeff Skinner at 10% less than Jack Eichel

Agree to disagree. Zib has two years left with 4.7M less of a cap hit. Is Eichel worth Zib and the second player you would have to jetision (eg TDA).

In all seriousness, I think this is where you have to remember things aren't done in a vacuum. Personally, I've always been on the ADA bandwagon, but if you feel that he is expendable than the trade might work. Don't forget, not signing ADA might mean that if you want you then have the money to sign Strome to whatever contract you want and Eichel-Strome-Chytil as your top 3 might be preferable to hoping that Chytil can morph into the 2C which he has struggled in doing.

Make no mistake about it too, Zib will get paid like Eichel in 2 years. I don't know know how the new CBA or cap situation will play out, but it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that Zib reaches or even exceeds Eichel's AAV just because the market is constantly being reset.

Zib also stepped up amazingly under Quinn to be a leader for this team. You trade your leader, the team could suck balls no matter who it is. Whats to say Eichel is a good leader?

Not sure if this question came up but will there be travel for the SCF? Or will Toronto or Edmonton host the SCF in one location?

Good question, probably smart to hold it in one location.

You really could say that with anyone. I'll give Zib a ton of credit for blossoming here, but the concussion questions will always remain as long as he is playing. I know that guys like Crosby have seemingly overcome these, but especially for centers it just seems like concussions are a death knell. I think Zib himself will age well because his playing style is more friendly to it, i just think he might not be able to play long enough to see it.

Honestly, the whole thing is probably moot because Buffalo would rightly ask for the whole solar system for Eichel.

Kakko would be a non starter for me, but I would think about the 1st. Of course a lot would have to do with how good you thought the team could do next season. We don't want to deplete the farm again, but Eichel is a guy who should be a top 10-15 player in the league for a decade plus. He's probably worth giving up a first for.

I don't think so for the goalie part, they have Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in the pipe line who is probably a year or two away from being their starter.

Not really, Zib became the true leader of the team last year. He has taken that position and run with it. The team is starting to come together, I think losing Zib would be a huge step back. imo.

The concussions are definitely a bit of a concern.

I agree, it aint happening, but there is nothing else to talk about.

Eichel has proven to be a "leader" who walks into the GM's office and female doges about the team and staff.

No. Thanks.

I will state my view very simply: despite the concussion risk and expected risk in his contract in two years, there is no way I am trading Zib in a deal for Eichel. Zib morphed into a leader and has become a dominant center. Plus, given the flat camp, his next deal may be at fewer $ than Eichel due to his age. I will stick with him here.

Sorry I'm at work. Did anyone link this article? https://lastwordonhockey....ffalo-sabres-jack-eichel/

In what world would Buffalo want Burns?

For what it's worth, I think Mika is a better goal scorer than Eichel and that counts for something. I still think with this roster Eichel could get 100 points. He's a rare talent. I know that this probably isn't a fair comparison on multiple levels, but Bernie Nichols was pretty solid in his time here, what if the team decided not to trade him?

Kinda what MDW said btw, not much to talk about so it's fun having these devil's advocate arguments.

I love Eichel, I think he is a beast. You are making your team incrementally better, potentially, but still may have an issue at the 2c while increasing your camp substantially. I liked Nicholls, but he never was a true leader. Great scorer, leader, no. Why moving him for Messier made sense. Unsure anyone who wouldn't want Eichel and that Burns deal is woof bad.

Sabres have missed the playoffs for 9 straight seasons. Do you think they want to wait a few more until the get a decent goalie?

what happens with the AHL next year is going to be very interesting.

Those teams cant play without fans in the arena, and without a place to play, it's going to end up being like we have a constant 10 guy taxi squad of guys who dont get to play real games

- jimbro83

I had the same thought. I guy like Miller needs to play somewhere and Barron needs to know where he can play to make a decision. I wonder when they'll come to any sort of resolution?

Interesting that you mention Messier. When Messier arrived in NY, he was already over 30 years old. To me, Eichel could be a Messier type of player.

So the question becomes: what do you give up for a 23 year old version of Messier knowing that he is under contract for the next 6 seasons?

I love Mika and Tony D. This is not about them though. If we are going to speculate about a franchise altering trade ( which this is ), then you can't let Zibby stand in the way. To me, the price isn't the only consideration --- because I would pay it. The concern is the cap because I don't want to be like Toronto or Tampa.

But Mika and Tony D plus 2 first rounders is a fair ask from Buffalo...
