I think it's only because we definitely weren't playing offense first so that only leaves one option available. - Pomegrant
Very difficult to play low event hockey when you are always pinned in your own zone without the puck. |

Rumors popping up that the Canucks are exploring the possibility of trading Boeser. That could be something we look into, and use our cap space to take Loui Eriksson off their hands to lower the price a bit - vlongo4419

You'd have to think the line of GMs making offers would be very long if they are open to moving Boeser. Getting Erikson off the books would be a win for them, but the price is probably still going to be very high. |

Fitz's first move as GM was to hire Ruff. Not a great start. - rmdevil313
Listen if Fitz lets Mueller go and keeps my boy Dakota Mermis around he's got my support. |

if a defense first coach couldn't get this team to be good defensively, might as well never play defense in the first place and just try to score goals (something this team is also bad at). What could go wrong. |

I don't know if any team except maybe Ottawa has the luxury of expendable 1st round picks and cap space like we do. If we're interested, I have to imagine we'll be in serious contention. |

The line should be long, but not every team will want, or even have the cap space, to take Eriksson as well. Taking both will cost just about 12M in cap. With the cap likely staying flat for the duration of Erikssons contract, that will take some teams out. We also have a lot of expendable assets to use that other teams dont have the luxury of having, including owning the canucks own 1st. But this situation is a prime example of why you dont just spend money to spend money in free agency, that money comes back to bite you real quick. If they were smart with their money management, trading Boeser wouldnt even be a thought |

So what do you guys think is a fair offer for a 23 year old who already has 75 goals and 160 points and will still have two years left under 6 mil and hits RFA instead of UFA status after those 2 years?
Canucks window is opening now, I'd have to think they would want more than picks back. |

Not sure, he also has a major injury history which is a bit troubling so that could lower his price a tad. No idea what it'd cost though, but it'll likely start with their own 1st back, plus a prospect and a roster player like Wood. Unfortunately i think they'd want a top 4 D back, which we wouldnt be a good fit for. Taking Eriksson off their books would likely lower the price a decent amount though |

Forget their own pick, I'd offer up the AZ pick!! Kid is a stud, and young enough to get the kids going: Zacha, AZ Pick + Walsh

So did things change? Do we automatically get the Canucks pick and have a shot at #1 now even if they lose to the Wild? - vlongo4419
Whhhat?? This impacts our AZ pick. |

I dont think it impacts the AZ pick at all. We get the pick no matter what unless they win the lottery and pick #1. Way more impact on the Canucks pick. Nobody knows whats happening though and if it affects conditional picks or not. It was worded so poorly from the NHL and nobody is being clear on it |

Im trying to remember. Do we not get this yrs 1st from AZ if they make the playoffs? Or we still get it of they make... But dont get it of they win a round? |

The wording at the beginning is "for statistical purposes only" so I am ready to be disappointed. |

I think they're trying to move him so they can open up space to retain some of their UFAs. My guess is that they'd look for a D man on a rookie contract. Ty Smith is really the only one that fits for us and not sure if it really makes sense for us at this point since we'd have to add more. |

The AZ pick only moves to next year if its in the top 3. Its the Vancouver pick thats conditioned on them making the playoffs |

Yeah thats what im thinking too, but its still unclear. Seravalli also followed up in a reply to someone and said that "there will be some sort of arbitration process coming for conditions on trades." |

As long as Arizona doesn't lose the play in round then go on to win the lotto (pick 1 is still going to be one of the teams knocked out of the play in round), we get their pick this year.
As far as I can tell Vancouver needs to win this play in round for us to get theirs this year. |

Woof that's a big loss. I wouldn't mind if Flames won 1st overall. We really need Habs and Chicago to win. Imagine having 7th and 9th overall?? Holy cow. We'll probably get 2 of the top players at 10, maybe at 11 or 12.. but its a lock at 9. If we didnt pick Sanderson with of those id be bummed. Our D needs that kid.
...unless..unless we really think the 2 forwards will be stars...and then just fill holes on D with UFAs and trades when the time comes, and next yrs pick...and 17th. |
