Woof that's a big loss. I wouldn't mind if Flames won 1st overall. We really need Habs and Chicago to win. Imagine having 7th and 9th overall?? Holy cow. We'll probably get 2 of the top players at 10, maybe at 11 or 12.. but its a lock at 9. If we didnt pick Sanderson with of those id be bummed. Our D needs that kid.
...unless..unless we really think the 2 forwards will be stars...and then just fill holes on D with UFAs and trades when the time comes, and next yrs pick...and 17th.

- MartysBetter88

I dont mind Sanderson, i'm not for or against taking him. Just take the top 2 players on our board with pick 7 and whether its 9, 10, or 11. Doesnt matter if its 2 forwards or Sanderson and a forward, we're getting 2 very good prospects no matter what

Yeah thats what im thinking too, but its still unclear. Seravalli also followed up in a reply to someone and said that "there will be some sort of arbitration process coming for conditions on trades."
- vlongo4419

That’s great news because we already know the league is pretty good at rigging the arbitration process. No reason to manipulate who gets the first overall pick until seeing who’s in the running... great planning.

Seriously, could the league more obviously be making up rules to manipulate things?

We are expanding the playoffs but we are calling it a play in so teams can still be lottery eligible. But statistically it’ll count as playoffs. But regarding trades and draft picks were going to have to go to arbitration to figure out how we want to decide it. No reason to have a rule til we know who we can help and who we can screw.

I love how you're all in on Sanderson now.

Idk. We'll never know until we find out in 5 years.

Just saw a tweet that said the teams in the play-in round statistically are in the the playoffs

So is it possible that if the nucks lose their play-in series that we get the 1st overall if they win the lotto?

Doesn't sound right

I'm really coming around on him too. I think he may be the right pick at 7 if the Arizona pick is early enough. That one mock with Sanderson first and Holtz second is a dream.

Remember, Sanderson is also going to play in the NCAAs next year. That is a risk in considering taking him....Devs cannot, I mean cannot screw up this pick at #7.

What happens if NCAA Hockey doesn't happen, can he be sent to the Bing or play in the NHL?

The college exception is a legit problem. That’s a really good point. And for the Devils should be a major consideration.

I’d suspect guys who can enter the league early might be less inclined to stay in school. But who knows.

Clearing up any confusion from last night. Canucks need to win vs the Wild for us to get the pick this year. If they lose the pick is moved to an unprotected pick next year.

If the NCAA season doesnt happen, and he still goes to school then he just sits out a year of hockey. He would need to de-commit from UND and leave school to play elsewhere. But everything thats been said so far is that their season is still happening, only the Ivy League sports are cancelled so far.

it's a win/win. I imagine them finishing at about the same position next year. I just really want to get Schneider.. though he probably won't be there at 17 anyway.

At this point im opening up to the idea that i dont have a preference on which year the pick is. An unprotected pick next year could be great, especially if they lose Markstrom or have to trade Boeser. If we get the AZ pick in the 9-11 range, idc about the outcome of the Van pick this year

I don't see why it would be. He will need some time anyway and I think the NCAA players that cause problems with their drafted teams are usually late rounders that want a better shot with the perception of higher value.

Yeah, I don't think a top 10 pick has ever done it, and Kevin Hayes is the only first rounder I can think of that has done it. Its not as big of a risk as people make it out to be.

I'm underwhelmed on both accounts. This is near worse case scenario. Well Milbury as GM and Pierre McGuire as coach would have been absolute worst case scenario, but this certainly isn't what I hoped we would do.

Now that the league has made up the rule so that we can't get Vancouver's pick and be in the 2nd lottery for the first overall pick, I don't care what happens. An unprotected pick would be great but if Vancouver makes the playoffs next year it won't mean anything.

Finally have time to look over prospects and I like what I’ve seen of Sanderson.

I’d have to say depending on how the draft goes before the devils pick that I’m in on Sanderson, and holtz with the second pick if he’s there. If not I want askarov and then I’d like zary with the last pick or maybe Schneider.

I have my eye on Quinn too. He would be a nice pick.

The league never changed or made anything up though lol. From the very beginning it was that the Canucks had to make the playoffs for us to get the pick and that the qualifying round did not count as the playoffs for trade conditions. I never cared about the Canucks pick at any point for this season because we cant get it any lower than 16, so i dont really care. I'd rather just take the chance on it being unprotected next year, as worst case scenario its likely in the same range. The only thing i care about is the Yotes losing to the preds, then not winning the lottery. Losing the AZ pick til next year or having it drop from a top 11 pick to 16+ will suck and take all of the air out of the draft for me

There was o rush to name FITZ... there was no hockey ... there were no moves being made ..none knew what was going on with the season the playoffs , the draft .nothing...The only thing s you had nothing to write about.... so stop crying and get creative.

ON RUFF>.. good teaching coach who lets kids be kids....and create.... he will be good short term but I dont think anyone see him here for 7-8 seasons . maybe3 at the most......

Draft for skill now......... match the style Ruff wants to bring for the next 3 years. fast ,creative , offense .and sign some big defenseman to bang.

Jacobs and Bahl fit this so need 2 more to teach them .....

butcher , Severson , PK , Smith .puck rushers ....

Carrick ??? Mermis ??? okhotuk ?

Draft what ruff wants now so when he’s gone in 3 years what do we do with those players? They’ll just be making the league by then. We needed a long term coach, not some guy that has been poop and like you said should only be around 3 seasons. That’s all this team has had. They needed to convince gallant better and not be afraid to throw money at him. The guy will probably coach Seattle and sees a better future there. How (frank)ed is this team that a great coach would walk away for a new franchise?

My recollection is that the league initially stated that they had expanded the playoffs to 24 teams. They also spoke about modifying the lottery system to only be the 7 non playoff teams. This included reduced lottery drawings and restricting how far down a team could move because I remember it assured we could not win first overall.

After some pushback from the 'expanded playoff' teams the league changed it to 16 regular playoff teams with 8 teams added to the post season for play in games and they changed the lottery to the current modified system.

So the league has not only had to make this stuff up, it's changed it as it was being negotiated. Which is fine. It is a difficult situation. I just feel like the breaks are working against us.
