The number of players opting out is already at 7, surpassing your guesstimation of 5, are you surprised? |

Makes the Luongo recapture look puny...
https://www.ontheforechec...shville-predators-for-now
If Weber retires at 39 Preds recapture is 24.5m for 1 year. At 38 12.3m for 2yrs. - Nighthawk
Hot take: after Luongo's recapture ends, the league will revisit this rule and deem it unnecessary, allowing players to retire without any penalty to their team. |

i'm surprised but not surprised.
the number is a bit higher than i thought it would be but if you dig into the numbers a bit, it's less surprising. there are players like baertschi and alzner who probably weren't going to play and so the risk is nowhere near the reward (even before doing the family calculus.)
i was surprised at hamonic before knowing about his family concerns. it was more these types of players that i was thinking of when i made the comment.
what about you? surprised at the number? were you expecting more or less? do you expect more - including more name players? |

I expected about 20, with a couple of mid-tier players opting out and 1 big name. |

Their hub is smack-dab in the middle of the virus epicentre. You couldn’t have picked a worse location if you tried.
“The staggering single-day number (15,300) comes as Florida is finding itself at the center of the country's new surge, with cases and deaths continuing to rise.”
To put that into perspective, BC has had 3,100 cases total. |
