Also, Mackay is from Halifax. The liberals took 26 seats in the east coast provinces this past election while the cons took 4. I think it would be closer to a split, maybe worse for the liberals. - golfingsince
I remember Mackay when it was the 'Progressive' Conservative Party.
His wife is the ex girlfriend of a guy I went to high school with. He was a tool. |

I miss some of the old time hockey. Most of these posters haven't seen a bench clearing brawl. |

I found it in the press release that's on NHL.com. It's under "statistics."
https://www.nhl.com/news/...c-317377156?tid=317064234
"Teams participating in a best-of-five series during the Stanley Cup Qualifiers are considered to have made the postseason and participated in a postseason series."
I'm going to try to ask about this at the presser on Saturday, but I think you're right — that means our dreams of being Team E have come to a crashing halt.
Cup or bust!

Carol, I think it's for statistical purposes only.
For statistical purposes only, all games from the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers (round robin and qualifying rounds) are considered part of the 2020 postseason. Accordingly, all skater/goalie/team statistics accumulated in these games will be included in the 2020 player and team postseason stats. Achievements from these games and series will be included on Records.NHL.com. |

Yeah, I just found the Twitter thread that's debating this, and that's one of the angles they're suggesting.
I think I'm more in the camp of "Why even bother with this paragraph when you've already said that qualifying round stats will count as playoff stats? It's redundant unless there's another point being made here."
I expect (hope?) that we'll get more clarity on this at the presser on Saturday.
Until then, keep hope alive!!! (??)

Not a huge Mackay guy either as he seems to be an 'eastern conservative' and doesn't really give a sh!t about the west and that includes BC lol...
But if he's the lesser of two evils I'll take him over the Tru_dope anyway of the week. |

Fair point. I'll be much less enthused if that's the case.
It would be typical Canucks to lose the play in have their 1st overall pick go elsewhere.
Then that JT Miller deal won't look good at all. Here's to hoping that hellish scenario doesn't go down. |

He doesn't care about the west as much as a westerner would. I'm not likely to vote for either party.
I think there's a better plan out there. |

I know, right? I was thinking that, too. Every CBA does seem to come with a "let's crush the Canucks" clause. I'd still like to see them beat the Wild and make it moot.

Under the scenario where we have a chance at 1st overall I could care less either way. Under the other scenario hell yes! |

Good call! Another interesting twist.
If the Canucks do not make the playoffs next season, the first-round selection will be in the 2021 NHL Draft.
"If we don't make the playoffs next year we are protected, we have lottery protection, and if we do make the playoffs it just speeds up the process of where we are at in our rebuild and pushes it a little bit further ahead for us."
Benning quote.
I wonder which is real, same story from nhl.com |

I think that's just a catchphrase fro pre-Covid times that translated to "you didn't make the playoffs." I wouldn't read too much into that.
I'm reading through the Memorandum of Understanding right now (71 pages!) There are lots of old CBA paragraphs that are being replaced by new paragraphs, and also lots of details to be filled in later - you know both sides were under the gun in a big way to get this done in time to make the return-to-play work.
I'm worried but not convinced, for now... |

I hope they make the playoffs (16 teams) and the pick talk will be gone. |
