2yrs left on LE is a difficult trade to make.
Trade a 1st is the obvious answer. I rather bury his ass in Utica & force his hand. Canucks owe him nothing & wouldn’t hurt our credibility in the future. Idc about his salary down there. An ELC who earns his spot is a better trade off.

If Boeser is a trade chip or not I equate him as a top 6-8 pick in this draft. Hockey trade then a top 4 D. That is not meaning LHD but a solid compliment for when either OJ or Rathbone are ready. I like David Savard or something comparable. Other options out there idk but feel free to give input.

Yeah, i'm going to continue to reserve judgement on this one. It hasn't played out yet.

JB gets as much or more credit around here than he does criticism. He's had a fairly long leash as I believe he's already in the top half of tenure among GM's.

Aside from the team he inherited, he's yet to make the playoffs. Criticizing him is fair game despite the addition of some exciting young talent.

A good summation. 👍

Always my 1st choice. Ride it out & work on other player movement out. Use the depth & prospects to make the roster a contender in the next say 2yrs.

He either plays well enough to get ice time or he doesn't . Especially when next years schedule might not even happen

Ferland is a possible trade chip. When healthy his contract is fine & he’s of value. If LTIR it’s a risk the right team can handle. That said keeping him is fine with me. He doesn’t get in the way of the cap.

Sven seems likely to be gone before others. There are ways to get that done.

Sutter is a give away if a reasonable deal can be found. Sabres NJ & Sens I see as trade candidates.

Beagle is here for awhile unless a TDL trade is found & that’s less likely given his age/contract & uncertainty of following seasons.

LE needs a mystery allergy to strike...ahem

If the bottom 6 had 2-3 bodies somehow disappeared he’s useful. That is the conundrum. Lol

I don't think Ferland is a trade chip but that is my opinion.

It cost the same amount to bring Sven back up or replace him with Motte . Sven would get more points Motte would be more a buzz saw.

I'd prefer to not re-sign TT than either of those scenarios. He's not even my top impending FA priority. It's either Markstrom or another goalie. I haven't seen enough from Demko to hand him the reigns yet.
- golfingsince

They need both TT and Marky. Virtanen is the only guy I think they can afford to move who has value.

Well EP and QH are on their entry level deals so it really isn't the same metric whatsoever.

Boeser provides more to the team than any two of those players, maybe all four. Those are illustrations of some poopty contracts Benning has on his resume. Boeser is one of his better deals.

- golfingsince

Funny thing is I agree with you – I think Boeser is locked in to a super reasonable deal. I just didn't find the logic that comparable

But anyways, I'm pretty sure as much as we sit on here all day coming up with different scenarios, JB and his staff are doing that 24/7. They have tons of contingency plans, lots of trade scenarios, and a number of different routes to go.

I'm not completely sold on keeping TT around. The next two seasons, he's going to make the team better for sure. After that, he might start to decline, and his contract and roster spot is going to impede signing guys and from players like PodK, JV, or Hoglander from moving up.

Now, if they can sign him without a NTC, then I'm all for it. But that's doubtful.

They don't really have the cap space for both IMO unless they move salary or one or both take team friendly deals. I don't think it's in the cards.

I like the strides JV has taken but I still think he has rocks for brains. I'd like a solid return but i'm not adverse to moving him.

Sven no room in top 9 as we sit. Less points than usual.

I agree they don't have room for both, which is why they have a cap problem....

I can't see them going back to "rebuild" mode. Take advantage of having Boeser, Horvat, Miller, Pearson, Markstrom and Toffoli locked up the next couple of years and try to make some noise. Sucks to have to double down on the Eriksson mistake but I think it's the only way to take advantage of the quality players on the roster.

The depressed economy and revenue uncertainty plus flat fixed cap are going to make owners not want to spend. Especially those few teams with cap space that spend thrift reason existed before the Covid crisis.

GMs will be focusing on hanging on to their top RFA players. UFA's are going to be taking short term deals. Only big stars like Hall and AP will get fair offers.

Dead weight guys will be creatively removed from cap. Its the new reality and we'll be seeing more rookies brought in to team rosters.

The Canucks are poised to do well in this new reality. Better even in a couple years when recapture and buy outs are gone.

With the current climate if all that’s going on I can see 1 of 3 things occurring...

He liked his stay & opportunity here & resigns a covid contract...1/5.25m

4 or 5/5.25m taking him to 32/33yrs old.
His style play can make that an ok deal

Lastly he bolts cuz he gets a better crazy offer. I’ll give that the least chance to happen.

When it comes down to Pod Hoglander & JV they are not stymied. TT plays either wing & can be pushed out of the top 6 only if any of those 3 earn/deserve it. Pearson has to prove himself more than Toffoli being this season wasn’t a 1 off. It could get him another 2-3yrs here. If not the kids will slit in just fine. Like you say there is only so many spots to go around. The F depth of prospects is something we have never had. It’s all in their hands & can give us more assets for future trades.
