At this point, we really need to stop blanketing the US as one. It’s not. The northeast is pretty much it’s own country. The south is an absolute poop show. We’ve pretty much ignored everything the federal government has said and have deferred to our own state leaders and common sense. I haven’t been to a bar or out at all (other than necessities) since March 12th and I’m 28. - RickJames77
Anyway, I’m pretty jacked up for these playoffs. I know there are a lot of ‘mehs’ in here, but I’m polar opposite. I love the scheduling for the qualifying rounds. I’m contemplating taking that week off. I have about 4 weeks of vacation left and I don’t see myself going anywhere. It seems as good of an excuse as any to park it on the couch and run the smoker day in and day out - RickJames77
Oh I’m pumped for the playoffs. It will be great.
Just need to get through phase 3 with minimal damage and then once everyone is in the bubble I think it should be smooth sailing.

Time to purge the stupid.
They should have listened to science and facts not some Republican idiots. - Fakepartofme
Government is supposed to protect everyone, even the stupid. Besides, they’re not necessarily the ones getting sick. Essential farm workers, etc are dying while we eat the food the pick process, etc.
We need to get past expecting everyone to be sophisticated or even aware. That’s not the world for the majority of the population.
Again, if government tells a 20 year old that it’s safe to go to the bar to try to get laid do really expect him to try to find reasons to stay home.

Of the government said jump off a bridge, would you?
Mike, I found your latest blog a bit confusing. Adding players who are going to be exclusively placed on LTIR does not create additional cap space (beyond allowing to exceed the cap by the amount by the cap hit of that player.) The cap hit of the player still counts against the cap.
If a team has 5 million in cap space and they sign a 5 million cap hit player to be placed on LTIR, the team does not have 10 million in cap space. All they have done is to allow themselves to exceed the cap by 5 million. It's swapping money with a serious drawback.
Teams that use LTIR are no longer "banking" used cap money. In the scenario where the 5 million LTIR player is put on the roster and another 4 million cap hit player is signed, that available 1 million is not banked over the season. Conversely, a team under the limit will accumulate unused cap $$ that can be used at the trade deadline to sign a higher cap hit player. This simply can't happen in an LTIR scenario. The team loses that flexibility.
A possible advantage to purposefully packing a team with LTIR players is if they expect to have those players back for the playoffs and the LTIR players are activated once the playoffs start - since the cap rules don't count in the playoffs. The Blackhawks did this in 2015 when Kane went on LTIR. They used the LTIR space to acquire Timonen, Desrajdin and Vermette. They activated Kane when they playoffs started and all players were played in the playoffs.
The new CBA is still using the previous LTIR rules. Nothing changed in that aspect.
A lot of teams are in cap hell, but, I don't see how obtaining LTIR players is going to make more cap space. - Tanuki
If a team is up against the cap and acquires LTIR players, that will essentially raise their upper limit and allow them to replace those injured players.
For example, if a team has 81.5M of committed cap hits and trades for a player on LTIR with a 5M cap hit, they then can exceed the upper limit by 5M . Essentially making their upper limit 86.5M
