There’s no way you can blame what’s happening in the States on a loose culture. Other than a few flare ups from Memorial Day weekend and we’ll publicized parties, things were tracking properly and numbers were coming down. The curve was flattening because people were doing what was expected of them. You can see that though April and May were holding steady until some of the States jumped the gun and opened things up. People were told they could go to bars and restaurants and beaches and that’s were they went and that’s when the numbers took off again.

And why do you think political malfeasance has so effectively unraveled what gains the US had made during this pandemic? It's precisely because the culture is hyper-loose that this is happening.

No, I’m not angry with you at all. I get your post and I too know people that are of that mentality. It’s more of a reaction to some of the posts that have been tossed around on here and was just making a point.
When I was using the word you, by the way, it was more of a general you. Not actually you. Sorry for picking your post
It probably should’ve been a different one. - RickJames77
Are you sure you're not Canadian? You are apologizing a lot lately.
I like the thin one called crepes with maple syrup from Quebec and if u want
you could add some grand marnier to the batter once cooked roll up crepes with vanilla ice cream as it's center and smother again with maple syrup

Then why say it at all? I’m not really trying to get into an argument or anything and I’m not attacking you or anything like that here, but when I and everyone I know have been in quarantine for > 4 months, it’s pretty (frank)ing annoying to continuously read that “we don’t do what we’re told, don’t care about anyone, have a selfish individualistic culture”. There are parts of my country that are treating this as a joke. There are parts that are not. Our federal government, is the real joke right now. Our President didn’t want to wear a mask into a medical center for veterans. A (frank)ing medical center. Left, right, on the moon, I don’t care, if you can’t admit that is beyond stupid, then you’re an absolute oxygen thief. But there are plenty of us states that are doing the right thing, but instead it’s Americans this, Americans that. Guess what? You and anyone else generalizing a country of nearly 400 million, is no better than any other generalization I’m sure you scoff at.
At least call us fat...that’s at least statistically accurate. - RickJames77
You guys elected the fücking idiot.
Americans are reaping what they sow.
Go back to the streets and keep protesting, it was working.

It was the Russians, man! - RickJames77
Lol.. they helped.
I know it must be hard for some people right now. Those of you who live empathetic lives and actually care about others. It must be hard to watch all the crazy Karen videos, and the racist asshøles on social media everyday. You guys (maybe all of us) need to take a deep breath, and make some tough but necessary choices about the future you want. Because the US is absolutely frightening to me. It’s getting out of control.

In any society, tell 20 year olds that it is ok to go to bars and they will go to bars. You think Singapore bars would be empty?

You seem to have forgotten to mention protests... - drexel
Because they had no impact. More people stayed at home because of protests so limited spread. Bars, restaurants and churches were main sources of spread; things that were opened up up prematurely.

Why do you think the US has been the worst hit by COVID-19? And I'm not talking about the recent uptick - I'm talking about during this entire pandemic.
If you think loose and tight cultures don't play a significant role in a nation's response to this type of crisis then that's your prerogative.

Everybody wants to carry around their cherished worldviews to explain to make sense of everything that happens. Of course there’s a huge difference between the western and Asian societies and if course that played a difference in the responses. But don’t underestimate the tightness of the American response to the Pandemic.
There was huge buy-in to the lockdown through the northeast. People stayed in. People wore masks. People took it seriously and put community above personal freedom.
That doesn’t fit the normal perception of “loose” American society but that’s what happened. We get caught up in that abnormal; the yahoos who protest for haircuts but most people bought in and when governments said you could go out they did. That’s how the numbers tracked.
The US was no different than Italy or other European countries at the beginning. NY got nailed and NY us the least loose part of the country b
