Everybody wants to carry around their cherished worldviews to explain to make sense of everything that happens. Of course there’s a huge difference between the western and Asian societies and if course that played a difference in the responses. But don’t underestimate the tightness of the American response to the Pandemic.

There was huge buy-in to the lockdown through the northeast. People stayed in. People wore masks. People took it seriously and put community above personal freedom.

That doesn’t fit the normal perception of “loose” American society but that’s what happened. We get caught up in that abnormal; the yahoos who protest for haircuts but most people bought in and when governments said you could go out they did. That’s how the numbers tracked.
