For as desperate as defense is for Detroit, it isn’t. Player for player in a vacuum could work, but Detroit can’t take a step back on defense. Good stuff feds - Jeremy Laura
When you’re rebuilding you don’t trade your youngest top prospect for a 23 year old. |

I hope the Canucks never trade Brock Boeser, if they do they will regret it. I see 40 to 50 goal scorer if ever gets a healthy season in or reaches his potential. He is the real deal, reminds me of Anthony Mantha, but younger at 23, a potential star on the verge of breaking through. - Puck Possession
Gotta hit 30 before you can be a 40/50 goal scorer lol. |

I believe Red Wings and Canucks make good trading partners, just not for this proposed trade.
I could see goaltender Thatcher Demko for Jared McIsaac and a 2nd being of benefit to both clubs, providing Canucks re-sign Markstrom first. - Reubenkincade
Detroit has enough underwhelming goalies in their system and McIsaac is the top LD prospect. Hard pass. |

It’s a head scratcher, for sure. If Vancouver is really moving a player that good, they want a very specific return. That draft return could work. I have to think they’d want a player that they’ve scouted. Vancouver has good Euro scouts. Maybe Berggren has moved the needle in some way, but there would still have to be more than that (in my opinion only).
Is there any “taboo” that would keep VAN and CGY from making deals? I know EDM is a big no-no in the battle for Alberta. - Jeremy Laura
There isn’t as much taboo as Edmonton for sure as both teams have made minor deals in the past but I think that the price for Calgary to acquire boeser would be higher than other teams. Similar to how when the Canucks moved Schneider they asked for a lot more pieces from Edmonton than what they got from jersey.

Hey, J: Thanks for the work you've done on the blog. LONG time Wings fan (Port Huron Flags as well - Doc Emrick's son and I were classmates in HS, McMorran Arena for training camp, etc...); watched games on WKBD w/Bruce Martin & Sid Abel, watched AL Ackerman call them "The Dead Things", watched Ken Holland in the crease....always been a fan. Detroit fans want something, anything, to give them hope. JB will hold his own in the crease this year, but the abuse of shoddy D will wear him down (Jimmy's a great example of this...); We NEED G & D; marquee players, but at what price? Detroit has a decently stocked farm system and a GM w/impressive accomplishments. After 33 years in the Army (and moving away from MI for warmer climate), I know that there must be pain before achievement. I LOVE the Doors reference (Seider on the Storm!!!) for New 'Mo; untouchable, L, B, M, Veleno, et. al. are the burgeoning core of a new era in MoTown; will have to eat a few more bad contracts (love ya, Abbey, but OUCH!!!)....and we'll most-likely see some more recognizable names depart soon. Detroit fans need it to fill LCA & pay the rent. B2 would be a good fit, but ANY acquisition made must be done w/the understanding that our core (Larkin, et. al.) are THE CORE. Cough up some better players, dump a draft pick or 2, snag a GOOD G & some better-than-Swiss-Cheese D....but fans will need to have patience ("hurry up 'n wait, Soldiers!").
When I was stationed in up-state NY, I could pull down AM radio freqs & Red Wings games, gave the old Homesickness a real boost Now in SC, I pay for the NHL Center Ice, and my back-log of Wings games really ticks my wife off, but I'm dedicated and know that we must hurt before we heal (think that applies across the spectrum right now, as well).
Some REALLY intriguing offers for trades from your blog; you have some dang smart fans, J. I like B2, and would be ok seeing some potential go to show the rest of the NHL that Hockeytown is not down, generate some interest in the FA & trade market. |

McIsaac has battled through some injuries but the Red Wings still view him as a very good prospect. I think he tops out as a potential 4D which is just fine by me. I'd say Cholowski is disposable. |

It’s that same hesitation G mentioned. Like with Svech, we don’t know what we’ve got. If healthy, Feds is right, top lefty prospect. You weren’t “wrong” to bring him up. VAN will want something special. Yzerman may not go for it but they could certainly ask |

Missed a good chunk of last season but still managed to play on the Canadian WJC20 team 2 years in a row. He is a fairly highly regarded prospect. |

He is a very good defenseman. Been following him for years, I think Red Wing fans will be surprised and happy about having him.
I dont think your team needs to rush anything, you have some nice young players in the organization.
You may have to be a bottom feeder for another couple seasons but I like what your team has in the cupboards.
Patience. |

And the Dats cap erased got us Franz...........maybe just drafting Chychrun would have been better. I do like Hronek. Maybe flip Cholo to somebody for a 3rd and it will be better.
Take on a bad contract that is only 1 or 2 yrs long with a 1st for Cholo

Not only did Holland sign Life in the Franz Lane Nielsen for 6 years, he re-signed Helmroids for 5 more years. Earlier that season he gave Abby Toad a 7 year contract extension! Serenity now! 🤮 |

It's nice when you have McDavid and Draisaitl already there. The best thing Holland did was hire Dave Tippett. You knew he was going to hire a proven veteran head coach after the Jeff Blashill Experience. He can't micromanage with Tippett. - gergeswillems
It’s also nice when you take over as GM and already have Yzerman, Fedorov, Lidstrom, etc.
Holland has be undeservedly getting credit for being a top GM for almost 30 years. |
