If the players make it to the bubble’s they are working in safer conditions than 99.99 percent of people back to work. Not to mention getting paid more than all of them. Forgive me if I’m not really concerned for their health.

I hate to be callus but I kind of agree here. If you have an autoimmune issue, by all means sit out, but I’m not really sympathetic to millionaires with a ton of job security wanting to sit out when they’re not a high risk demographic.

A cloth mask has minimal effectiveness. An N95 mask or even a surgical mask are very effective (but not readily available).
- jmatchett383

Fortunately for the most part I have been able to work from home but the very first time I had to go in to to work for the day the only mask I had at the time was an N95 mask. I wore it for the whole day (my company requires a mask of some sort in the office). I coughed my lungs out for about two weeks straight after that, starting on the commute home. I was worried that the mask was defective and that I might have damaged my lungs from it but it seems to have gotten better (and no, I didn't have a fever or any other Covid-19 symptoms - the coughing was definitely from the mask).

I also read that N95 masks actually increased dissolved CO2 and decrease dissolved O2 (in the blood), which not only can cause lightheartedness in some people but actually can make a person more vulnerable toward contracting an illness.

I hate wearing any kind of mask, but I guess the cloth mask is the least intrusive, even if it isn't that effective.

I only wear my N95 mask when I'm patching/sanding drywall.

It's helpful if the people you agree to come in contact with also limit their exposure to just a few people.

What is your problem? Do you have anger issues, not everyone is going to agree with you. If you insist on dragging politics into this site expect resistance. Please stick to hockey.

I heard this guy on the radio over the weekend... They did a study in collaboration with all the state medical directors. It wasn't a right/left discussion. Just a statistical discussion about what we're learning so far.

Basically.... Out of the 130,000+ deaths, 110,000 were in the 65+ age group. Out of those 110,000, 95% had significant underlying issues.

Also said, deaths in young people are almost zero. Yes, some young people are having complications and a handful have died, but it's statistically insignificant when considering all the other ramifications like suicide, OD's and financial hardships.

Anyway... Not meant as a political point. Just haven't heard the death rate broken down like this.

Here ia a honest question: Are they done counting stats for the season, or are the g/a/p/sv/gaa etc earned in play-in games and round robin games going to count towards regular season stats? OV and Pasta sitting 2 off of 50 for the season and Matthews only 3 off. Just curious if there had been any discussion?

Haven’t they already named awards finalists? Pretty sure the regular season was declared over.

Nah it’s pretty common knowledge that the virus is highly contagious but only kills old people or people with autoimmune issues. The debate that everyone is having right now is if it’s cool to just sacrifice those lives in favor of returning to business as usual. No one serious thinks that if we reopen everyone’s going to be dropping dead on the streets if we reopen, and no one serious thinks that the virus isn’t lethal to the at risk demographic.

Yeah.... We all generally knew this was a killer of the elderly. I never heard anybody put specific numbers on it however.

I'd like to see the rates broken down by all age groups and comorbidities. After doing a quick search, seems like 90%+ of the remaining 20k had serious issues too.

I don't know.... Is it really "sacrificing" people at this point? Or are we now sacrificing people in other ways?

Anyway.... Back to hockey.

According to Morehouse, the Pens have been working really hard for weeks during those limited groups. Most of the team has been here for those skates. They might be much further along than the Habs.

There are more outcomes other than simply living or dying. Experts fear negative long-term health impacts and/or permanent damage affecting the lungs, heart / cardiovascular, kidneys, digestive tract, and/or brain / neurological system. COVID can also lead to other deadly outcomes after the patient recovers (which won't be recorded as COVID deaths).

History showed that during the Spanish Flu, Canada required people to wear masks back then & felt it was responsible for keeping the death totals lower in Canada during that Pandemic. The spread of this is through droplets & i have seen more & more doctors agree masks are important. I'll listen to them.

One encouraging thing is that with pandemics it seems that after the 2nd waves the virus burns itself out & just vanishes. There has never been a vaccination or cure for any of these nasty pandemics, we just need to be intelligent, patient & use common sense to survive this thing. May take longer than what people would like. I havent met a person yet that isnt fed up with Covid fcking 19.
