Didnt a former teammate call him a "frog"?

Maybe dean Kennedy?

Derogatory towards french players?

- Boss34

Possibly but I know RJ called him the French Gorilla on several occasions

Donald Audette, interesting. I saw him as a faster skater and I see the size but the stats have some comparables, he had some 50 pt seasons, 40's and even had a 71 pt season for the Thrashers. He would be in the ballpark but I think Hecht and Pominville are closest.

More of an old school fan here, but sticking to my analysis that Buffalo needs and has needed some toughness for years. They just haven’t had those guys willing to go to war in a long time, especially defensively. Please please please get us a tough nasty defenseman that makes you keep your head up and if you touch our goalie you walk away with bruises on your hands and shins and ankles if not an imprint of knuckles on your face.
This team has needed toughness forever and I know not a goon type but a Tom Wilson type that can play.

- bigpoppa720

1 player is not going to change culture, We need Team toughness. the whole team needs to buy into that style of hockey, you don't have to punch someone in
the face to be effective, just ALL WAYS finish your checks and take away time and space, that is really all you have to do to be effective.

Don't really care who he is like just be the skunk, as long as he signs a decent contract and puts up his 60 or so points a year, build the team around that first line, and go from there.
- Buff36

I like this take. What do you consider decent? 6 per? 7 per? I’ve read a lot of people saying $7 per... but that was with Botts. Who knows what a “lean” contract would be. Who are the comparable contracts to him?

Well I am looking at what Tervanien from Carolina signed last year. He signed a 5yr 27mill contract, and had 3yrs in a row of 60 or so points. So with inflation and so, I would say a 5yr 29.5 to 30mill sounds about right. I would not give him 7mill, if he wants that then package him up and see what you could get for him.

Sam has not been in playoffs yet. Unknown what he will do there. Bad argument to the comparison there. Eichel has all 0s there too

Doesnt that say something about leadership? you know , bringing your teammates with you? Bringing the play around you up to a new level?

So $6 per there. Nylander got $6.9... call him $6.5 over 5 and get it done.

Not sure I’d say that. Too much crap around him. Ya can’t make chicken salad out of chicken poop. That falls on management and ownership to put a playoff team together.

No it says something about the talent level of the team.

Apparently Jack Eichel is a loser.

That first line, which he has been part of for the last few years, has led them to absolutely nothing. He has had one season of 60+ pts so there is that. He would be better slated on the 2nd line while they got a better 1st line winger and 2nd line center to hold the fort for Cozens.

He was always going to be a 2nd line player and would improve the Sabres if that was the case. They have manufactured him into being a 1st line player with manufactured stats and then inflated salary.

Yeah who wants to haggle over a little more, would rather keep it around 6 cause I think that is very fair contract for him. Think Skunk disappears a little to much, but this team can't afford to lose good hockey players.

I would agree with this in certain ways, I actually have stated that I did not understand why he wasn't on the 2nd line most of this year, actually might have helped Skinner out. If they can get a better RW for the 1st line that is fine just means your making your team better. And unfortunately Jack has manufactured stats for 2 or 3 players on this team. I see people saying Olofsson should get 4.5 to 5mill in his next contract, well I guess Jack helped his stats to. For 1yr I think those numbers are a little out of whack

That’s where my head is at. He’s a good hockey player. Gil makes an interesting point that maybe he should be at 2rw. And I’m fine with that too. If you can add a rw that pushed Sam down. Even better.

Bottom line he’s a really really solid 2rw and a good 1rw with jack. Top six hockey player.

You move him, who are your rw?

Skinner. Jack. Player X
Olo. Player Y. Samson

Figure out the x and the y and you have a really nice top 6.

With....

Mojo. Cozens. Kahun
Pick 1. Lazar. Okoposo

As a decent bottom 6.

Fair enough, but isnt sam a "core" guy a few of you want to build around.

There more responsiblity for core guys making big $.

Would you call eichel a "winner" ?

I'm not sure if there was a player comparable to Reinhart before and if we want to call him unique then there you have it.

I have no problem with trading Sam Boss, you know my feelings on Rhino, I have posted them many times. But unless you are bringing in a better player it doesn't make any sense. This team can't afford to lose good players.
