Doesnt that say something about leadership? you know , bringing your teammates with you? Bringing the play around you up to a new level?

Losers lose

Be fair to Okposo, he's a very useful and very overpaid bottom 6 player.
- TheSabresTaco

yeah but you can find 2 mil pluggers to do what he does

They aren't so keep the hate strong .

I'm sure I'm wasting my figurative breath here, but your 'they can do no wrong' attitude will never be appreciated here.

I agree in this instance though, as they're not horrible people. I've met them, they're good people. They, however, have no (frank)ing clue what they're doing.

yeah but
he's not a scrub. He's simply overpaid.

And I agree with you, you can find players more than half his cost. If Okposo was bought out today, I would bet my 78 Trans Am he signs a new deal for over 2M. He's proven himself extremely effective as bottom 6.

It's just a shame he costs so much.

I disagree that it falls 100% on management.

That's just my two cents.

- chilliard77

I think the only ability to say that is if you think Samson performed far below his talent level, not expectations. If Sam has the ability to be an 80pt player and he's dogging it, then that's a valid point. If not, then management drafted the wrong guy at 2. Not his fault IMO.

Assigning blame is worthless. The entire org as a whole is to blame, head to toe.

Throwing Reinhart under the bus here is worthless. Throwing Frolik and Girgensons and Bogosian and Eichel and Meszaros and Omark and Moulson and Legwand and Erod and whoever else.

It's worthless.

- TheSabresTaco

I agree. Me assigning blame on a hockey forum is worthless, accountability is important.

It's my hope that the players like Reinhart who are still here and will be here as part of our core take accountability upon themselves. To be the difference.

Ah, the ol' "he should be better cause he was #2" arguement.

I love a nice Big Mac, wouldn’t spend $20 for one though.

Sam fell short of his pre-draft expectations

Not picking Leon is a huge reason why we are sitting here today.

Hopefully Dahlin and Cozens make up for it.

I can just as easily argue that teams like Boston didn't need the best player or best draft position to be perennial.

No arguing he wasn't the #2 player in the draft, poor choice on management's part. But I would urge you to temper pre draft expectations and not let them overflow into arguments about what to do now.

There are 5 players from the 2014 NHL Draft that made the All Star Game. They were drafted #1, #3, #15, #25 and #79.

Guy typing at home or work behind a computer:

" Pommer is not a leader "

Come on, he was a nhl captain.

This current team though, tons of leaders forcing a difficult choice over sam. 🙂

- Boss34

I'll simply reiterate what i said: the leadership on those post-07 teams was so poopty that Craig Rivet became the captain the second he was traded here.

Doesn't speak well to the leadership of Pominville or anyone else

No they didn’t but they hit on their picks.

Sam is a good hockey player, could it be worse ? Absolutely.

However Leon was right there and we passed.

Instead of putting blame here and there, cause it really doesn't matter anymore it's in the past, how about we hope Adams and Krueger can add the necessary pieces to the puzzle to put this team over the hump. We have decent pieces to build around, they are all still pretty young, lets finish the puzzle and go from there.

Until the Sabres figure out the NHL draft, they will continue to suck.

How did Boston get Bergeron, Marchand, Pasternak, McAvoy, Carlo, Debrusk ?

How did Tampa get Stamkos, Hedman, Kucherov, Point, Cirelli ?

How did Toronto get Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Reilly, Hyman, Dermott ?

How did the Avalanche get Mackinnon, Landeskog, Rantenen, Makar ?

Look at every team in the NHL and most of their cores are drafted and developed.

When you have the 2nd overall pick in the NHL draft and take a very good complimentary player and the Ted Lindsay finalist goes one pick after that hurts a lot.

We have another draft here to add some more prospects to the organization that can hopefully make a difference down the line.

Adams may not have the cap space everyone thinks he has, but to say Botts didn’t leave him with an endless amount of options and directions to take this roster is false. We have very few long term commitments.

Hindsight is worthless.

Brings us around to full blown, systemic organizational failure. The last decent draft this team's had was 2000 and (frank)ing 2. What a (frank)ing joke.

Maybe 17 becomes ok.

The way I read those stats is a nod to Pommer. Guy was clutch in the playoffs at a young age. We haven't seen Reinhart in the playoffs yet, so we shouldn't chalk him up as good or bad in that category until we see it.

I think trading Sam would be a mistake. But so would giving him a massive deal.

- chilliard77

Not as large a mistake as having a top line of Maroon - Eichel - Tage, which I can only assume you were trolling about.

It's done, just like my ranting of the 2015 draft, it's done. What is the biggest move that could help us out the most this year. Along with a better 2nd line, I believe goaltending is a huge need for this team. We all can put this number or that corsi number out there, but goaltending hurt us this year.

Of course they did, they were horrendous during the PK. Both had poor saves above expectation percentage. Ullmark was actually pretty solid 5v5.

The entire unit was poor on the PK, and the goaltending did not help. I'm not ready to write off Ullmark, and I wonder how Hutton looks with his vision fixed. It's definitely a question, though.

Nope only Florida and us.

And if Calgary took Nylander or Ehlers they’d be in a lot better shape too. Instead of talking about blowing up the core this offseason.
