They are on 10 minute intermission but here is the link if you want to look at the second half of scrimmage but man they look sloppy

If that's what the hockey looks like in the play-in, it's going to be a loooong summer

Canucks look more together at this point but it is only practice. Like the announcer just said if the Wild are going to play like this then they are in trouble.

I seen one play in the first half all 10 players one the boards after the puck on one side of the rink.

I think Green is looking at this like a true training camp and that he's taking a hybrid approach of let's get to business prepare for Minnesota and I am going to whip you guys in to shape the same way he does for a normal camp. I have watched some of the games and practices and the thing that stands out is the pace. Now not easy to compare to other teams clips I have watched but he'snot easing them back. This will be an advantage for us.

Minny's play at this point looks a little more scrambled. There is still two weeks to get stuff in order.

Definitely some things to work on with Canucks also .

Some secondary positives for Canucks is Zack and Justin Bailey looked very good . HiLites seemed to have Graovac having a good game.

I hear though Jake Gaudette and Roussel line looked horrible .

I never really liked that line and mostly due to Roussel, He doesn't or didn't bring that attack mentality he had before. He should be getting in on the forecheck to get the D to have to engage physically, make them take a hit every shift. If he does that both Virtanen and Gaudette can react to turnovers and gain possession or create scoring chances.

It will be interesting to see what happens this off season. I hope we have a strong run to increase value. A guy like Roussel may have interest from the Habs seeing his best friend Burrows is with the organization.

I would be also okay with moving Jake for a good RHD that is young and skilled even if we had to add.

I would like to see a physical 2 way all situations top 4 defenseman.
This team has way too many non-physical players.

I agree the more I look at the winger situation the more resigned I become to the fact that Jake looks like the odd man out. Other prospects look to be capable of what he does without the other distractions. I agree with your earlier point about Zack, on the 3rd line he could be a huge addition he's big, quick and can make D men pay or panic with the puck.

Today at Practice Jake is odd man out. Still early but looks like Green is sending a message. Replaced by Zack

Not sure a short highlight of the scrimmage does his play justice, but he was directly responsible for 2 or 3 of the goals against. He was danced by tanev for a goal lol.

How many times can you try to teach a lesson? After a while it's just not worth it.

If Jake gets traded, I could very well see him get demoralized and never recover.

Yeah I agree . I was paying more attention to the media at the practice about what was being said . He looked brutal for most of the time apparently.

Jake needs to take things a lot more serious.

I would trade him for a young prospect that is almost ready. I will throw out a name like Noah Dobson but it does not mean I want him.

I have not followed Dobson so I am not sure even how he is doing . I mean a prospect that has value and is very close to being NHL ready this year or next.

Back in training camp in Victoria, quinn made him look silly in like 5 plays in a row. Virtanen then did board drills next with leivo and pearson and took runs at them in frustration and both ended up slashing him. I also remember loui protecting the puck from him as if he was a scrawny junior player. Jake will always be jake, not sure he is going to suddenly become a good defensive player ever tbh

I think it's more of a message than anything as Travis has shown he has patience beyond most with Jake. That said he's on a short leash as Zack can slot in there no problem

I know he has a following and people always comparing him to some elite power forwards but that is just wrong.

We will see what will happen but I think his time is running out.

They are one of the worst teams in the play-in best if 5. Is there a better matchup in the west? I think we lucked out.

There is comparing him to Cam Neely (dumb) as one thing, but comparing him with the average NHL forward for his defensive play is another. You would hope that at his stage of his career, he would somewhat get it and not have to go through the "message sending" phases of his career anymore, but I dont think that will ever change.

That is the problem . After every break in the schedule it seems like you need to go back to square one.

Meh. Wingin about a 23 year old having fun is just not my speed. I’d prefer if he focused, but I can’t really blame him for not. Also, ive just read three pages of something out of nothing between jv, beags and tanev.

Truth is: Virtanen has improved on last year.

I'm sure his teammates can. They're all focused, trying to make the most of their skills and limited opportunity in the NHL. Gaudette's 23 and works his ass off, so it's not a written-off age thing. Not saying he can't have fun, but if his fun and carefree attitude are effecting his job, then ya, it's problematic.
