Only when there is some one who can clearly replace them. Never understood the desire to dump them the past few seasons. Quinn Hughes can't do it all.
- Marwood

It's like all the whining (not you lol) when the Sedins retired...who will replace those minutes and points? Well, we're fine (even better) without them and we would be fine without Edler/Tanev from this point forward without them IMO. We have the ability to build around Hughes but people will need to be patient with it.

Too much emphasis on coaching. The biggest change in team attitude I’ve seen in years had nothing to do with coaching. It was the arrival of JTM.

Players feed off of other player’s emotions, not coach’s emotions. Attitude and swagger has to come from within. In 2010/2011 our teams attitude wasn’t driven by AV. It came from guys like Kesler and Bieksa.

A good point that gets overlooked.

I know it's Willie Mitchell syndrome and if Tanev was moved might win somewhere else but it is what it is...he's fragile. I just don't think it's worth the long-term risk keeping him here.

Edler is still ok but he is a massive minute-muncher which I think hurts his game. Maybe it's on Green more to manage his minutes but as long games wear on he just gets worse out there. Again another risk I would pass on IMO.

- LordHumungous

Tanev did fine this year with Hughes and not having to be in his own zone for 90% of the game. I'd see if he was willing to take a shorter deal. I agree it's not worth getting to that 4 year range with him.

I agree, I think Edler needs to play less to be more effective. Maybe the same as Tanev, they'd be more effective if they're not doing the shutdown role for the majority of the game.

We have the ability to build around Hughes but people will need to be patient with it.

I think the Jets have a legit shot to beat Calgary. Nucks will struggle vs Minny.
- LordHumungous

I feel like the Winnipeg forwards are going to give the Calgary D a bunch of issues especially without Hamonic. The Jets fwd's are quite physical and as we saw in last years playoffs that will give Calgary fits. Curious about Gaudreau as he still hasn't skated with the main group yet.

Don't want to risk injury so his trade value remains high?

A bunch of guys who are being labeled as "unfit to play" around the league? Maybe they're just in really bad shape physically so they're not ready for a training camp?

Yeah more than likely. I don't pay much attention to it. Guys will go on and off the list in the next couple of weeks and they are not allowed to say what the problem is.

But they ain’t playing right now. They are training and practicing. How can you be “unfit to practice”?

I don’t get it.

Love what JTM brings, but I think its erroneous to equate his attitude to how the team plays in a system. I'm not talking about the attitude of the team, but literally where they're positioned on the ice, their structure in their own zone and neutral zone, their forecheck patterns... not how much they care or their swagger. That's a coach's decision on how to play. It's up to the players to execute that, and push their limits like JTM does, but overall a change is needed in how the X's and O's are arranged.

Are Xs and Os that different these days? Or is it more about execution, energy, and buy in from the players? I find energy guys can make any system look good.

Edler Myers
Hughes Tanev
Rathbone Stecher

Benn Briesbois.

I don't know If I like it or not. I guess I would need to see what Plan A looked like first. We will see.

I dunno, if you put Torts in charge of Toronto, do you think they'd be a better defensive team with less offensive upside?

It's not a silver bullet for what ails the Canucks, but a system change/tweak/alteration might be helpful (not full Torts, mind you.. you never go full Torts!)

Why not swing for the fences? Save money, get the kids into the game. Can shelter Rathbone and Rafferty at times by putting Edler and Myers together for some shifts.

I don't know about saving money I don't expect Stecher to be getting any type of raise?

He's at 2.3 mil right now. Letting him go and bringing in a rookie saves 1.3 or so

Plus if you're able to get rid of Benn that saves 2.

There are lots of things they can do but in the end I think it will come down to who they like the best.

Still a possibility of a trade . In the last week and a half Jake is falling out of favor . Is he pissing of management again? I heard he looked terrible last night.

Like I said earlier, I think this play-in/playoff series is a great barometer for the team, the players, and the staff. Who's showing up to play, who's committed to the team, who's making this team better. There's a log jam at F that needs to get addressed and a shuffling on D that's about to happen.

I agree somewhat . I think Canucks top 6 forwards are set. I think 4 D are set Edler Myers Hughes Rathbone. I am pretty sure Tanev will be back also unless they find an upgrade.

After that all bets are off and anything can happen.

Unless Rathbone forces their hand, like Quinn Hughes did, the chances of it happening two years in a row are REALLY remote IMO, I don't see him as a top four defenseman. He's never even played a minute of pro hockey.

He will be bottom pairing. I am not putting him in the top 4 of the team . What I was getting at is he will be one of the four Dmen that will play for Canucks next year.

yes. I initially liked the Benn signing but wow was he a disappointment. My Habs fan buddies told me so but I wanted to give the guy a chance. Is Rathbone that good? Top 4? I don't know much about the kid but it appears he's a stud. I'm ok with Myers as I think we will see his effectiveness in the Po's.

Edler, Hughes and Rathbone on the left side, lot of guys needed on the right side. Tanev will be back IMO.

I think maybe I didn't word it properly . I think he will be a Canuck next year bottom pairing.

I don't think he would have signed the other day without a good idea of where he is playing next year. He is an excellent passing D man with very good break out speed. Lets face it he only has to beat out Fantenberg lol.

Benn was a disappointment . I was hoping for more toughness and hits.
