I heard there is going to be an internal team cap
prepare for a young roster when the season starts back up - homiedclown
It’s not like we can get worse. Would be nice to have a whole new second line |

That does not surprise me, in fact several of my recent posts are about the implications of that. I can't really blame them, but at the same time there may be moves available that could set the team up for the following season....would be a shame to miss out on those.
If it becomes fact, and Adam's is high on Analytics; bye bye Risto and Monte. Sam and Mojo for Cap reasons...that is $20m right there.
Cozens as 2C, Asplund and Lazar fight for 3C and 4C.
This all spells:
Sink like a fatty

This has been out there and if there are few or no fans in the stands who pay much of the NHL's salaries adjustments have to be made. The Pegula/Sabres charity appears to be over, at least for now.
I think there will be more teams who have an internal cap as well.

Last 8 games of this contract year for the inconsistent sam that put it together late in the contract year
8 gp. 0 goals 0 assists 0 points -9 +/-
In Sam's defense, eichel was clearly hurt near the end of the year, so.......... - Boss34
Meh, he was on track for 60 even with that small sample-size fall-off.
If Jack would have stopped being a being a friggin wussy with a minor injury.... |

Is it going to be $78M? $70M?
If it's only $3M under the cap limit, big deal.
If it's more than $10M under, it matters. - kingcong39
big cut so I am thinking 70-72 mil |

This is why I lean towards Sam and Risto being goners, not sure about Monte.
We were all very shocked about the cleansing of the 20+ admin, scouts, even before that the workers at the arena. Don't be shocked about what happens regarding the movement of some players who make the very big bucks in the organization. |

One of those teams is Florida having already set a desire to cut $10m, without any gate revenue do they go straight for the floor for a year?
Hoffman and Dadonov on expiring contracts saves them $9m, but they still have a boatload of RFA's to sign..
Could Haula be a target? How about Brett Connolly? How about both?
How about going big for Huberdeau?
Offer combinations of Mitts, Tage and 2021-1st
These are the types of moves, IMO that could be available. |

From a TSN article by Frank Serivalli back when Botts was fired...
Financial information is not available on the privately-held company, but sources indicated that the Sabres have lost money virtually every year of Pegulas’ ownership, including significant losses of upwards of $30 million per season in some cases.
Forbes Magazine reported in December that the Sabres earned $1 million during the 2018-19 season before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization - while holding one of the league’s higher debt-to-value ratios at 20 per cent.
All of that could help explain why there has been a belt-tightening around Sabres operations.
Edit:
Forbes cited Gate Revenues at $44m ... if that is all or large portion is at risk, I could see some ather draconian changes.
Mirtle of The Athletic wrote in an article that at the Cap Floor of ~$60m; once higher Escrow and new 10% deferral is factored in, the actual cash outlay would be in the $42m range.
Hmmmm |

Yep, articles like this make me think there is no way they pay Sam what he wants or what he thinks he deserves. Also, they look at the losing like they did with the admin and scouts might decide they do not want to reward him for no team success for his whole career. Maybe I'm wrong but I think the Pegula's got sick of paying to the cap and still being league losers. |

37 games in nhl for demko
3.02 gaa .906 save %
hutton as a sabre 81 games
3.07 gaa .904 save % - homiedclown
Keep hearing Hutton isn’t this or that and when you take a good look at his stats compared to other possible candidates he’s similar or better. No Demko trade. Hutton will stay and if he blows up close to 500 like he was this year I’d look elsewhere for a problem. Can you say “secondary scoring”

We all know secondary scoring is a problem, it has been for years. But so is are goaltending. And playing 30 to 35 games as a backup I won't a little more then 500 hockey. That's a nice chunk of points left on the table. |

this is assuming there is an AHL season
we have Oskari Laaksonen and Casey Fitzgerald under contract still if there is an AHL season
I doubt there is an AHL season this fall, and expect a lot of guys going overseas for a year with expanded NHL rosters (say 30) - homiedclown
My point was that it really thins out our defensive depth
Idk that Fitz (great name though) or Laaksonen (in his first season in N.America) are guys we’d want to depend on to play with the big club
For me, it’s not about whether or not Borgen is “ready”
Bc he probably is
It’s that we have very little (if anyone) who is ready behind him
And u know injuries will happen |

I guess that is one view someone could have.
So, then how would you classify having 4 2-RhD's costing a total of $13.7m (5.4+3.6+3.8+.9), while having gaping holes at other positions 2C, 2Rw, 3C, 2-or-3LhD on a team that desperately needs to score more goals.
Sabres can afford to trade 2 RhD's and I would go further and suggest that it is irresponsible not to.
In the example given, a FA signing of DeMelo was positioned to secure Dahlin's partner, leaving Miller and Joker to battle for the 2nd and 3rd pairings, both of which could slide up into 1st pairing as needed for short-term injury purposes, leaving Borgen to fill in on 3rd pairing. That saves $9m in Cap to secure DeMelo AND get assets back either to fill a current need or futures to build out the sorely lacking pipeline
Not sure why you don't get that. - IonSabres
I don’t think the Sabres are going to sign quality UFAs
If he’s good enough to be Dahlin’s partner, then he’s good enough to have offers from better teams than us
Why on earth would he choose Buffalo right now with what a mess we are?
Especially when he’ll get offers to play on teams that are actually good |

That means Borgen will be available in the expansion draft and the Sabres will have no idea how can he handle himself in the NHL? |

Most if not all teams want 500 out of their backup and rely on their number one to make the big point production
Example. Same season stats next hear for Hutton. 12-14-4. 30 games and 28 points.
Ullmark would play 52 games as number one and need to win 32 minimum for 64 points and team combined total of 92 or better to make the playoffs.
Who would you say has the opportunity to make the biggest difference. If Ullmark is the man the playoffs will be there for the taking.
More secondary scoring is the main concern and if not looked after expect more of the same |
