Fitz, this is akin to fear mongering.
If they dealt Risto and Montour as 2 RhD's, that leaves them with Joker and Miller on 2nd & 3rd pairings...the same two guys some have positioned as 1st pairing partners for Dahlin. In the case of injury to the 1RhD ( DeMelo) then Borgen comes in to play 3RhD while Miller and Joker play up. If one of them is injured, Nelson is called up, assuming he's resigned as a UFA. If not then one of Fitz or Laaks. They have players.
What other team is running 5 or 6 NHL caliber RhD's? ...well, except the stupid Botts-led 2019 Sabres. - IonSabres
Again.. you’re assuming we sign DeMelo
I don’t think that’s happening
It’s a bad idea to project that we can sign a guy good enough to play with Dahlin
That guy will choose a better team |

They aren't paying him 7 mil a year and for a long contract when they are cutting the budget and they have lost with him a lot and he doesn't have the greatest stats even though many like to say they sare great, I am seldom wrong with regard to what I say here so Sam fans should be very afraid.
With regard to me seldom being wrong I watched part of the Yankees/Mets game and as I predicted they had fake cutouts of people which I predicted months ago. Just a little sample of my astuteness - GilPerreault11

Well we have to think what teams can actually afford to sign UFA's, and what they need. 16 teams are gonna have problems resigning there own UFA'S and RFA'S. We just don't know the landscape yet, the Sabres will have problems signing players, but we will have to wait and see. - Buff36
True
But I’d bet if u took a poll from players where the most desirable places to play are,
then Buffalo would be VERY close to the bottom right now
What’s going on here is pretty rough,
and everyone knows it

I have already gone through the predictions of things that have come true, common sense and deep thinking separate me from many others. I'm sorry but the truth hurts and we shall see. They will be talking in their meetings saying we have lost with him, we can lose without him and paying him that 7 million bucks a year. Let's see what we get for him. Even though certain fans will have a tough time saying goodbye.

It’s still a sh!tshow of an organization & team that can’t figure out how to win until proven otherwise
Just bc we trade Risto & Montour doesn’t mean high demand UFAs are gonna wanna come here
Let’s say we trade them for Tuch and Henrique
U think that’s enough to get DeMelo or any other good UFA to come here over say Philly, Boston, Pittsburgh, or any other of the 24 playoff teams from this year?
I think it would take a significant overpayment
So even if we are spending to the Cap,
idk that u could predict that happening
Still think it’s unlikely - jdfitz77
Still trying to be optimistic? Lol!
I think the probability increases, yes. Guaranteed or high probability...nope.
BUT, that was the premiss of why Risto and Montour are dealt. DeMelo or someone si liar is acquired.
I also dealt Sam, which when combined with Risto and Montour in 3 packages should bring back 3 good players at position of need. I thought you were on the we need just need a tweak team...doesn't sound like it anymore.
To be clear though, I really don't think the Sabres spend anywhere near the cap... so it is all moot. IMO. |

Yep, articles like this make me think there is no way they pay Sam what he wants or what he thinks he deserves. Also, they look at the losing like they did with the admin and scouts might decide they do not want to reward him for no team success for his whole career. Maybe I'm wrong but I think the Pegula's got sick of paying to the cap and still being league losers. - GilPerreault11
There are currently only 5 teams with $5M+ in cap space. The Avs being one with their three best players making a combined $16.43M. Another, the Blue Jackets, had a salary expense of $82.5M. The Kings, the Devils, and the Sens being the final three. So dogpoop, ELCs and underpaying, and high salary, low-hit are the reasons for having cap space.
It's going to be interesting for sure to see how it all shakes out, but you have to be relatively near the ceiling to ice a competitive team. That's not to say that if you spend you'll have a competitive team.

Dude, you MIGHT be right
But you’re making huge assumptions without having any clue how Kruger/Adams feel about Sam
There’s posts of ways to actually cut payroll if they wanna keep him
Montour, Risto & MoJo are obvious candidates that could easily be traded |

You mean having a 4 of Jack, Skins, Sam and Oposo at say $32m isn't optimal value for their combined 170 pts, and on pace for 202 over 82 games isn't optimal? Take Jack's 78/93 out of that, and wow, just wow! 3 guys making $22m delivering just 109 points over 82; that's 36 points apiece...3 3rd liners making 1st line dinero. |

You’re still actually missing the point of the original convo
It was having Borgen in the nightly lineup as RD3
What i was saying is that if an injury then occurred to Jokiharju or whoever we still had playing RD2,
then that would bump up Borgen to RD2
And that’s not something I’d be all that comfortable with
Plus, it would force us to callup a defenseman who’s likely either not ready, or subpar to fill in at RD3 like Laaksonen or Fitzgerald, etc
My point was that i didn’t wanna decimate the depth of our defense
And it would be better to start Borgen (and Bryson for that matter too) in Rochester so we at least have a decent guy on each side worthy of a call up |

Here is my deep thinking and common sense: Sam is going to be asking for money that game-changers get, he is not a game-changer, that is why it is not hard to predict to read the tea leaves that with the budget cut, continual losing, their cleansing of 20+ admin and scouts that says it is going to be a very busy offseason and it won't only be fringe players involved.

Borgen on 3rd?
1st - DeMelo
2nd - Joker
3rd - Miller
Not sure where that assumption is coming from |

I really doubt they are gonna put such a crunch on the Cap that they can't bring in some kind of upgrades to the roster. Maybe that is trading Sam for another forward, but they have to show something to there Captain or that request will come out. |

Such a stupid penalty. It in no way helped him nor did he mean to do it. Glad he won though seems like a good guy. |
