. JJ hasn't played a full AHL season yet. You can't view him as more than depth coming into next season.

Makes sense to me
And if Montour/Risto is moved for help up front,
then add that guy to the list of protected forwards

he played 300 minutes on a bad team

I mean nobody wrote miller off in 03-04 when he had a 5.08 gaa and a .795 save % with 177 minutes

- homiedclown

Miller was also a year younger & much more highly touted

That’s a tough comparison,
bc Johansson has never been projected as an NHL starter like Miller was

In fairness to you,

johansson was projected to be one of the 5 best goalies in his draft class, second ranked euro

he's no scrub

Well hopefully they can add atleast 1 decent forward to that list. With as many teams that are in cap trouble they should be able to atleast add 1

First, being ranked the 5th best goalie in you class doesn’t mean a whole lot
Pretty rare u get 5 starters out of 1 draft class

And I’m not saying he’s a scrub,
just that he isn’t being projected like Miller (or 6k even) is

The problem is that if Homie is right & we are setting an internal cap, then we could be in Cap trouble too
Or at least not have room to add anyone of significance

One is projected as a potential franchise goalie
The other is not

Doesn’t mean Johansson sucks
Just makes it a bad comparison to others ranked so highly

There is going to be a talent shuffle, they aren't going to lose with the same crap, sorry Sam and others.

Have to see what that is, but I would think they have to show Eichel atleast 1 upgrade to the roster, or you might be hearing his request.

I don’t think the Sabres are going to sign quality UFAs
If he’s good enough to be Dahlin’s partner, then he’s good enough to have offers from better teams than us
Why on earth would he choose Buffalo right now with what a mess we are?
Especially when he’ll get offers to play on teams that are actually good

- jdfitz77

This is a valid point if the Sabres elect to go with a lower/low cost internal budget. They won't be able to sign a good/very good UFA if they are jettisoning everyone else for picks/ prospects.

However, that wasn't the assumption. The assumption was building a winning organization, say ready to contend in 2+ years time. In an effort to do so, Risto and Montour are moved to acquire players at positions of need.

Yeah...
It not a reach to think he’d be upset if we do nothing significant & miss the playoffs again

I could actually see him requesting a trade if that happens

Just because YOU are infatuated with Sam, doesn't mean Kruger and Allen feel the same way and will lose for the umpteenth time with him and others on the team.

It’s still a sh!tshow of an organization & team that can’t figure out how to win until proven otherwise

Just bc we trade Risto & Montour doesn’t mean high demand UFAs are gonna wanna come here

Let’s say we trade them for Tuch and Henrique
U think that’s enough to get DeMelo or any other good UFA to come here over say Philly, Boston, Pittsburgh, or any other of the 24 playoff teams from this year?

I think it would take a significant overpayment
So even if we are spending to the Cap,
idk that u could predict that happening
Still think it’s unlikely

I’m not infatuated with Sam
YOU’RE the one saying he’s gonna get traded,
just bc u dislike him any want him gone

And I’m not saying he’ll definitely be here either
Just that your assumption has no basis in facts bc none of us have any idea what Kruger/Allen think

Well we have to think what teams can actually afford to sign UFA's, and what they need. 16 teams are gonna have problems resigning there own UFA'S and RFA'S. We just don't know the landscape yet, the Sabres will have problems signing players, but we will have to wait and see.

Not really
I’d fully expect Borgen to get called up when injuries to occur this year
And when injuries do happen...
I’d much rather see Borgen on pair3 with Risto or Montour still here,
than i would Borgen on pair2
And Fitzgerald on pair3
That defense likely gets whooped on

And Botgen is getting exposed in the expansion draft no matter what,
so idk how that’s a factor at all??

- jdfitz77

Fitz, this is akin to fear mongering.
If they dealt Risto and Montour as 2 RhD's, that leaves them with Joker and Miller on 2nd & 3rd pairings...the same two guys some have positioned as 1st pairing partners for Dahlin. In the case of injury to the 1RhD ( DeMelo) then Borgen comes in to play 3RhD while Miller and Joker play up. If one of them is injured, Nelson is called up, assuming he's resigned as a UFA. If not then one of Fitz or Laaks. They have players.
What other team is running 5 or 6 NHL caliber RhD's? ...well, except the stupid Botts-led 2019 Sabres.
