EXACTLY

It’s so dumb when ppl try to use that argument
Nice post

- jdfitz77

I posted the links the other day for points for guys up front the last 5 years, 3 years and 2 years

reinhart was top 60 for 5 years and 3 years, top 50 for the last 2 years

there is only 31 teams, so 93 first line players and reinhart was somewhere near the middle once you removed the d men from the list on all 3 links

So you're willing to roll the dice and go into training camp to *see if Cozens and (lol) Mitts are ready for 2C duties?

And what happens when they fall short?

Yet another year on the outside, looking in.

- Powerslave

If I may, I'm not sure we have too many other options.

The price to acquire a 2C is Reinhart or Reinhart+ depending on who we're targetting. That creates a hole at 1RW we aren't really ready to fill with youth either.

I don't see many other ways this happens other than, MoJo starts as 2C again and Mitts/Cozens are given the opportunity to take his job. I highly doubt Mitts is up to it, but I'm hopeful that Cozens, by Christmas, may have acclimated to the speed of the game and be able to fill that roll.

Only other option is if you think you can acquire a 1-2year stop gap guy who is cheaper than MoJo, but better at the position. That's a lot of ifs.

Edit: I'm okay with trading Sam if it's for the right player. Just worry about who that would be and how we replace that top line production. Tage or Okposo playing there makes 0 sense to me.

Trading Reinhart means our top 2 right wingers are Tage and Okposo. Obviously that sucks. I would rather they trade #8 + Risto/Montour + ? for said @ 2C - if possible.

okposo, kahun or asplund for line 3

If you spend the entire 5 years logging top line minutes, are on top PP, and healthy, then top 60 just seems like a given. I doubt there are even 60 guys who meet that criteria. No one else in Buffalo has.

He'd go down in rank and production, like anyone else would.

Great example would be Mark Scheifele. He is a great player. No arguments I assume. When he plays with Ehlers, Conner or Wheeler, he produces significantly more than when he plays with Roslovic, Copp or Eakin.

Why this is unacceptable for Sam but common sense for others is beyond me. Your production does depend somewhat on your team and linemates, hopefully that isn't too ground breaking.

Norris trophy candidates announced. Carlson, Hedman and Josi. Carlson has to win it going away right?

Also, ROR up for another Selke. Sweet. Glad we got Super Sniper Tage Thompson. What an effin joke.

Couldn’t the exact same thing be said about Risto, who you’re a big fan of, and has played a jillion x more minutes
- sbroads24

I've put him in the Sam package, get with the program. And just to get things straight, I'm not a huge fan just someone who thinks he is better than most on here do and has more worth than bottom 2 D like you.

This same stupid argument was used to get rid of ROR?
How’d that work out?

- jdfitz77

Sam is no ROR. There were no teams drooling with offer sheets when he was an RFA, he got a show-me contract.

It is what it is. Some of that is to be expected and his draft position will forever loom over his head it seems.

Oh well, if he doesn't ask for an astronomical contract, then hopefully we have a solid 60pt winger for another half dozen years.

Brayden Point and Matthew Tkachuk are lesser players for the exact same reasons, yes?

Kim Pegula, President and CEO of Pegula Sports and Entertainment has mandated to Kim Pegula, President and CEO of the Buffalo Sabres that the organization get “leaner”. That the lack of “fans in the stands” will invariably hurt the bottom line much more in the next season or two. Given that loss of revenue, there is no other options, regardless of Captain Jack’s ultimatums. Couple this with the confirmation from Kim Pegula, President and CEO of the Buffalo Bills of the loss of revenue from The naming rights of Rich stadium and Loss of ticket gravy from the Bills season. This clearly puts the Kim Pegula’s “lifestyle” at risk and the belt will be tightened for 2-3 seasons all around THE Kim Pegula empire.

He was inexcusably comparing ROR to Sam. If you want to go through the litany of better players than Sam now, it is is going to take a while.

Yet he can't be on his own line ..

I wouldn't pay him what happens if jack leaves we're (frank)ed with that contract

And this is coming from not the biggest Rhino fan, but as long as his contract demands aren't out of wack, why don't we keep Rhino, play him with Jack. They play good together, and it might keep Jack happy. Why make another hole when you don't need to, and who cares if he might not be as good without Jack, he is good with him. Go and get another good RW and let Cozens loose at 2C, he isn't rated number 1 for nothing.

What qualifies as out of whack? Feels like even the biggest Sam fans here don't want to give him 8m on a long term deal, which says a lot. Can almost guarantee he's asking for more.

No, but still creates the issues. Where do we replace a 4-6D and a 1RW cheaply?

Seems to be trading one issue for another. 2C may be more important, just not sure it's a net gain in the long run if we need to go out and acquire replacements after.

- RhinoFan

Trading 2 of the 4 2RhD we have is not an issue.

Anything over 6.5m is out of wack to me, kid from Carolina Tervanien signed his new deal Jan. Of last year, 5yrs 27mill, 3 years in a row of 60 or more points. I think 5yrs 30-32 mill is a fair contract for both sides.
