Gipper is from Saskatchewan. He is a fellow Flaccovillian and alike myself are not true fans apparently.

I’m not sure how he even got to write on the blog. I’m sure Hatboro is protesting as we speak.

- Pegullaville

You’re nuts if you think an out of market fan is the same as a fan that was born and raised in the area of the home town team. You think a Yankee fan from Buffalo is as big of a fan as a Yankee fan from Staten Island? They’re not. There’s more emotional attachment to your home town team. Don’t put your b’y Gipper in the same category as you. You’re a fraud that picks your favorite team based on who is good at the time.

Joker switches with Miller by mid way next year.

Risto, Asplund, Thompson, add the 2021 first if you have too to acquire somebody who can hold their own as a 2C next year.

I have known some huge Yankee fans from Buffalo, one lady watched every game, she absolutely loved her Yankees. I think the older generation was different and geography and teams didn't matter as much.

Funny thing is, if not for Canadian fans like myself the Sabres would have moved out of Buffalo 20 years ago.

So much for proximity.

No offense meant, but probably more "unlike" you...as in those who spend on Season Tickets.
Just being a fan and attending a couple games a year isn't very impactful, with the exception of the past 6 or so.

Goal conversion factor for different eras.

Played on lines with dominant centers (Turgeon, LaFontaine): check
Fans wanted him ran out of town for being soft: check
Scored all his goals around the net: check
Number 23: check
Literally looked like the exact same player: check
Greatest comparison: check

Looks like it all checks out. Why did Sabres give up on him? I was too young to care about that stuff back then. I was too busy thinking wow, did I seriously hit that ball that far in little league games.

- Hatboro_Swords

Fair enough 3ER

Ray played 2 years and some change with oh la la pierre. Also known as sneaky pete.

1st year pierre was 18 and scored just 14 goals
Hardly dominant
Patty la la wasnt traded to buffalo until ray shepard was on his 3rd nhl team

Soft - check
Scored goals, lots if them around the net - sorta check
Number - check
Look nothing alike

This really doesnt check out. Especially the dominant center arguement

Besides trading Risto what would you love to do, what would people do to curb the losing on this team? What trades would people make to upgrade the forward ranks?

Going back what losing Sabres team has kept the same makeup of players, even big name players while they lose? Even 1stt overall Pierre Turgeon was traded to shake things up and improve the talent. What group goes 5-6 years and is a lottery pick every year without saying, ya know this just isn't working? But, keep loving Sam.

Sam never really put on a lot of meat, he is pretty lean so if we want to go lean he might be a keeper, just saying.

The Canucks would have to cut salary sir, they are in cap hell right now.

If Boeser is indeed moved, I’d have to think it’s for a first rounder this year plus a prospect

Well yes they do, and the only money they are really taking back is Montour and what his next contract is.

Truth is, Flacccoville would be one of my favorite posters if he swore his allegiance to the Buffalo Bills, like he should.

The difference between the Yankees and Canadian Sabres fans is that the Yankees have always been televised locally in the Buffalo market, at least as far back as I can remember. They were on MSG before the franchise started the YES network. The Sabres have only had a local TV contract in Southern Ontario for a few seasons, and that was only relatively recently when Bell picked up a number of MSG broadcasts.

Sure and I’d say 20% of those seasons ticket holders reside in Niagara Falls, St.Catherines, Grimsby, Hamilton, and Toronto Ontario.

I’m sure a lot of people buy seasons tickets as an investment product as well (maybe not so much the last few years). So how many people would buy seasons if they weren’t able to make a nice markup on the games they decide to not go to if it weren’t for all the Canadians that come across the border ?

Believe me I go to at least 4 games a year and judging by the lineups at the border after every game (including games against smaller market U.S teams) half that building every night are Canadian citizens.

You’re welcome

What is happening with our HB blogger...is Ghofrani gone now? Is Gipper a replacement, or is he adding as an alternate blogger.

Curious minds need to know

As far as I know, your regular blogger is still around...and I don't want to speak for him...but from what I gather he has other time commitments that are limiting his ability to write as frequently as he used to.

For me, I seem to write a yearly blog in the My HockeyBuzz section, kind of a cathartic exercise more than anything...get stuff off my mind, not expecting anyone to read it. I wrote that first article a couple of weeks ago. On Monday, I found an email in my junk mail saying that the article was going up on the main page...and would I be interested in writing more regularly?

So hopefully I'm not boring you guys to death...I took the gig kind of hesitantly...it's a tough time of year to come up with ideas to write about...but also hopefully I can improve my writing as time goes on.

Love the feedback...I'll try not to take things too personally

The Penguins recently did a 30 year anniversary special interview with Ron Francis, Bryan Trottier, and Scottie Bowman about that game 4 and Francis was saying how Jagr was telling everyone on the bench and in the locker room after period 2 how good Hasek was and that he could turn the whole game around. They didn't know much about him then so he was a mystery. Jagr kept saying, "He's the best goalie in the world! I'm telling you!..." I remember seeing the camera showing Mike Keenan on the bench after Belfour gave up a goal yelling "Dominic!...Dominic!..." to put him in the game and I thinking "Man, the Pens chased another goalie and now they have their backup in. This could get ugly." But Hasek was brilliant in that game. He almost won it for them. Like the blogger said, he stopped about four breakaways as well as a 2 on 1 with Lemieux and Stevens. Mike Lange, the Penguins' broadcaster was going nuts making the calls. "HASEK ROBBED HIM AGAIN!!" Makes me wonder what would have happened if Kennan had replaced Belfour in game 2 or 3. He may have stuck with Hasek for the rest of the series and who knows?
