I don’t understand how Toronto is always involved in these rumors, yet they are pretty much maxed out with their cap space.
-njsportzfanatic2
1. Anything Toronto-related drives many, many hits.
2. Are you saying that Toronto couldn't offload cap space to make something happen? |

I would think Stevie would not mind acquiring Demko. The Canuks could use him as the sweetener to get rid of Eriksson. Say Louie (retain$1M) and Thatcher for a Red Wing prospect (Cholo or Svetch) or a 3rd.
Where do I sign?
Sincerely,
Jim Benning - Balboa
Hmm your right. add Jet Woo.....but upgrade the pick:
Nucs give Eriksson (retain $1M), Demko and Jet Woo, (Nucs take off over $6M cap)
Detroit gives a them the Caps 2nd rounder

Not a chance if Im Detroit
Its not a bad deal for the Wings but teams are gonna be looking to dump some serious crap on them and they can get wayyyyyyyyyyy more for some worse contracts cause loui is almost done. Theyll get a 1st and top prospect that isnt a goalie forsure.
Leafs paid a 1st to move Marleau jist think about that and now theres a flat cap and like 1 third the league is screwed. Detroit is gonna tuen around super fast now and Seattle is gonna be unreal out of the gate |

This does not make any sense. Demko is unproven at best. We have never seen this many top notch goalies available in one off season. Markstrom, Lehner, Holtby & Murray. Toronto is not trading assets when they just traded future picks for Jack Campbell & Kyle Clifford. Who's to say Demko is even better than Campbell.
The Canucks management have put their team is a very difficult predicament. I predict they resign Markstrom to a 4 year 24 mil contract. They may lose Demko in the expansion draft but Markstrom was a Vezina worthy goalie this year. They must sign him. |

Demko is better but I'm not interested in taking any albatross contracts to get him. Abdelkader and Nielsen are still on the team. Dekeyser too. That's $14.5 million in wasted cap space. |

Not a good year for teams to be in cap trouble or players to be UFA.

Toronto makes everyone the most $$$.
Aside from that, because Toronto gets so much attention, people believe they are just such a mess and in "Cap Hell" when it could not be further from the truth |

But Det isnt a contender right now. And the dept isnt that hot. But I do get that Allen isnt a log hit. So that does make sense vs making a deal to take on some sh!tty contracts from vancouver. I just look at the skill of the players that are for the future plan. Allen is just a stop gap. A bad goalie. But is it worth taking a bad contract for a future goalie? Thats the real qeustion.
I see people saying goalies like Talbot, Allen and etc. All stop gaps and hoping they improve over what you just saw from Howard and Bern. And Bern been decent. But you need a future goalie. With that said. Some teams are in trouble. Others arent. And there are many goalie options available. And some of those goalies might turn it around. But guys like Talbot and Allen arent. |

Demko's NHL stats are no better, if not worse than Ullmark's… and Demko played on a better team. I don't see why the Sabres would want him, unless it was part of a bigger trade involving other players. |

I just don't know what to make of Demko. He was highly rated coming out of junior but I think the Canucks expected him to be more established by now. The fact that Canucks fans are willing to trade him says alot.
Like what the (frank) is he? A backup? Or a starter? He really $hit the bed taking over for an injured Markstrom down the stretch. Young goalies are unpredictable. Remember when Bernier was once thought to be this ultra talented young goalie who just needed a chance to shine? It didn't quite work out.
Yzerman once traded for an unproven Ben Bishop and that turned out to be a great move for Tampa. If Yzerman believes Demko to be the next Bishop then I could see a trade happening.
I just don't know much about Demko to want to take on more garbage contracts. I'd sooner go for a stop gap goalie like Jake Allen for now. Or a Cam Talbot. I don't have to give up any assets to sign him.
The market will be flooded with available goalies via trade or UFA whatwith the looming expansion draft and stagnant salary cap. Teams in cap hell need to dump salary. Something has to give and Yzerman has multiple options from which to choose from. |
