It might be time to let Virtanen go, because of his attitude, not his abilities. I don’t see anyone who’s surpassed him in the system except maybe Mac, even he hasn’t done what Jake has at the NHL level for an extended period.
Sadly Virtanen is a much better player than Roussel but he’ll never out work him on a consistent basis, if he did, Roussel would/should be sent packing. - Pacificgem
I listened to Halford and Brough discussing Jake and it reminded me of something you said a while back.
They asked?
Can he skate fast . Absolutely
Does he have a good shot . Absolutely
Can he hit . Yup
Does he have a good hockey mind . Nope not at all. He doesn't process the game. |

Grabbed it before I read this, I've followed Hergott through the season and I agree, hes gotten great reviews. I'm not slagging Rafferty but sounds like his skating/mobility is being questioned a bit by some of the reporters at camp. - belcherbd

OK a reporter said it . Three months no skating and he doesn't have a good practice.
He doesn't really follow the Comets, he is going by what he seen at a practice.
He is right about Bries and Chat. Bries is a reliable polished #7 . I have said that a few times here.
Chatfield bang on.
He is not far off with comments about Rafferty. Very good with puck . I would take a second third and even fourth look with Rafferty .
I still think Jake will be traded for a RHD so it is moot
- VANTEL
I would love to see Rafferty make it but I'm naturally pessimistic as I'm sure you remember....
The fact that he came out of no where to be a leader in the AHL for scoring as a defender doesn't help.

Nope he doesn’t, but he still scored almost 20 goals in a shortened season, which no one else has proven they can do in Utica. When someone takes his spot, then move him, he’s immature and his attitude sucks. |

This seems more reasonable because there are two posters arguing JV can't make the roster so trading him for RHD has value. Not clear how you get value if you're not good enough to make this Canuck roster. |

Incorrect. 2 posters said he’s getting passed. Quote ppl & not using your own words would be better. |

I think we are going to be referring to Rafferty the sweetner soon . I think Jake will be moved to get a RHD and I think Rafferty might be moved with Sven for a draft pick.
I think Canucks will come back with Myers Tanev and a RHD from a Jake trade. |

True but they’re very different players in terms of what they can do. If you can replace his skill set internally then do it, but imo it’s not there yet. Which means you keep him to ice the most competitive team possible. Trading him for a top four right shot dman is a pipe dream. |

JV needs to move into the video room. Stay there til it gets through. Time to learn to be a student of the game & the work that’s needed to be one. |

That’s a possibility or create more cap space to resign everyone & get a UFA. |

Isn't getting passed the same as not making the roster? There are two things going on here. One is time to move on we have other more capable players now. The other is he's most expendable and has value to get us a RHD. Explain how both can exist? |

Versatility of players playing either wing & injuries make for strange choices. A fully healthy team leaves JV in a predicament & the obvious asset to be moved if anyone is traded out. The top 9 depth is simply that good.
I never said anything about RHD but is an obvious depth need. |

I don't think you can get a top 4 RHD. But a prospect or young dman who can grow perhaps. Philly has a few .
While they're not there yet, having MacEwen, Podkolzin and Lind all there makes it likely you can replace him. |

JV's days have been numbered since he was sent down. Either the bust label or later trade him now that he has value. Like Miller he could be a Cap casualty. I think if they keep him he'll pay off like Miller on skill set not leadership though. - NuckUp

Absolutely, although there’s no guarantees, as soon as someone actually takes his spot because they’ve outplayed him, trade his immature ass. |

crazy hey! This is what happens when owners get directly involved in team operations. Ed Snider was desperate for goaltending and he paid dearly for it. |
