I loved simmonds 5 years ago
I did not care for the simmonds we got for 7 games - homiedclown
Let ALL the UFA's walk. I'll be pissed if Kerry and Tim offer any one of them a contract.
The prize this year and Next is Cap Space.
Weaponize it. Be aggressive.
They need to get their 2021-3rd back from Rangers. Could they sign and trade Larry or Simmonds for it? That would be the only way I'd sign any of them.
Go get that 3rd back.
Trade Risto, Montour for RWs (Kapanen, Tuch, Anderson, Lebanc, Boesser), add a bit if necessary
Trade Mojo for futures if successful in trades above for RW, use that money to get Dahlin on a long term contract this season instead of waiting for next season.
Offer sheet one of Cirelli, Strome, Domi or another suitable RFA for 2C from Cap challenged teams.
Sign DeMelo or Jan Rutta, or Shattenkirk for 2 year, as 1st pairing partner with Dahlin
Sign Dillon for 2LhD
Too aggressive? Too many moving parts?
BS, they need to sign 10-12 guys anyway...that's only 5 moves.

defensive line on a losing team
grier played with drury on a winning team
apples and oranges - homiedclown
Here's my beef on the whole Log line...
Granted they maintain possession and there is high value in that in controlling play and therefore reducing Goals against.
They also generate chances and have decent xGF
But none can finish, thus largely wasted opportunity.
They will cost a fair amount that this team needs to redirect to scoring more goals.
Can we get guys for vet minimum to effectively maintain possession at 1/2 or 1/3 the cost.

I'm not giving up that for a team to take Okposo when he'll only have 2 years left on his deal at that point. - kingcong39
It's alot granted.
In the context of the overall roster build I suggested, that 1st should be a mid 20's selection...it had better be.
I don't have alot of value in Mitts.
If it changes in a year, then adjust accordingly.
All of our defenders really had average to below average individual statistics this year yet we were a top 7 team in the league for 90% of the year in reducing high danger chances.
The Girgs-Larsson-Okposo line was one of the best analytical lines in all of hockey last year.
We were a strong defensive team due to them eating up those tough minutes against other teams top players, and were a huge reason why we had such a good record on home ice.
Our record on the road was putrid when we couldn’t match them up defensively against other teams top players.
The “Larry’s” May not have hit anybody but ask the opinion of the players that skated 15 minutes a night against them and had zeros across the scoresheet if they were a pain to play against.
The Bills defence may not have forced a turnover or scored on every defensive possession they had but they suffocated opponents and forced three and outs. The “Larry’s” forced three and outs.
Are they going to protect 4 defensemen in Pietrangelo, Parayko, Faulk, and Dunn?
They're going to expose Faulk 1 year into that massive deal? Maybe banking on Seattle being too smart to take him as their player selection?
In the mock expansion draft The Athletic did on July 2nd, they had Seattle taking, among their 11 total defensemen selected, Brandon Montour, Jake Bean, Julius Honka, MacKenzie Weegar, Jonas Brodin, and Brent Burns.
That would be some starting defense for Seattle. - kingcong39
We should of gave Seattle our team then just took the expansion team

Seems like the people who like the log line want it both ways:
Theyre indispensable, but every time production is brought up, the finger gets pointed at the quality of linemates.
So which is it? Is the line good or not? - jcragcrumple
over used line IMO by default
dave hanan and wayne presley probably got 7 or 8 minutes even strength and pk duty
IMO they were the perfect shutdown guys
in a cap era, any line with okposo is overused
one thing for sure, in the last 2 years grier played for the sabres and the last 4 years larsson played for the sabres, I never expected the team to score a goal

Too bad you can’t re structure contracts in NHL. Make Okposo do that and I would love the Log as our 4th line

Okposo is overpaid by $3M, I believe you can replace Girgs with CJ Smith or Asplund.
However with the lack of centre depth as it is, I do not believe letting a Selkie level defender in Larsson walk out the door is a good idea. But that’s just me.

And if they brought back the 3 stooges next year, we'd still be sitting here talking about how the team is in the bottom third in scoring after Ralph plays them 15 minutes a night...again. cut the cord

Agreed.
Eff the 4th line. A true 4th line should play about 8-10 minutes a night.
