The years Larsson was here the team was 179-239-61.
How much of a difference is that guy making?
And the only reason we have "tough matchups" is because we have no second line to match up with other team's second lines.
Fix the 2nd line, and things even out dramatically. - Powerslave
With that argument I guess Eichel isn’t making a difference either ? |

If he prevents other teams from getting “points”, that’s not worth anything? Especially when that’s his entire role?
He had the same amount on primary assists as Victor Olofsson, and one less than Eichel at 5 on 5.
He isn’t a goal scorer. He is adequate as a passer.
Literally ALL the evidence points to him being a capable third line center if put with guys who aren’t AHL caliber scorers. - sbroads24
I was told the log line was "one of the best lines in hockey."
Now they "aren't even AHL caliber scorers."
This is the dance everyone plays with this line. They get pointed to as a great unit and then to excuse the lack of offensive productivity by saying they actually kind of suck individually, so blame the other two guys |
|
|
|
if you bring him back and play him 13 or so minutes a night plus pk time with kahun and johansson I am fine with that
a true third line - homiedclown
This! Keep Larry Larry. Let locomotive Larry walk. And sadly we are stuck with concussed Larry until the next concussion. And while I like concussed Larry’s role as of late, he just costs too much.
One question, can Lazer Larry do what Larry Larry does and would it be at about half the cost of Larry Larry. And that’s if and only if there is mutual interest from Larry Larry and LarryKim on the Return of Larry Larry. |

Jeff Skinner is horrific defensively but has very good offensive metrics.
Larry can shut down the best player in the NHL but suffers a bit on the offensive side.
Both have value on a hockey “team”. |

That's it boards, and he doesn't mind doing the dirty work in the corners, funny how Skinner was scoring with Sobotka who did the dirty work in the corners. |

The offensive ineptitude that was the Sabres this past year at even strength was due to their overall lack of talent at the forward position, combined with Ralph's conservative style.
The leading Sabres in terms of primary assists were Sam with 13, Johansson with 12, and Eichel with 9.
Hardly a murderer's row of production there, although keep in mind the league leaders were in the 20 to 25 range, and the season was shortened.
I like what Larsson brings, but let's not just assume that he'll do something at a much higher level than he ever has before in his career.
He would likely get more assists playing with more productive wingers, but how many more? I'm guessing not nearly as many as you may think.
I'm fine giving him a 1 year trial at 3C as long as a quality Center is brought in for the 2nd line, but I'm also prepared for the reality that when/if (please) the Sabres shift to a more offensive style, that his production won't see some large increase. |

That hockey team sucked ass. Move on
Get two centers who don't play 1-dimensional Larry hockey for 15 minutes a night |

Sure let’s trade for the exact opposite player in Monahan. They’ll score goals but give up more then they score.
But hey we score more so at least we’ll be more exciting and still blow |

Yes, at controlling play and flipping the ice. Not scoring. Why is that hard to comprehend?

Whether we lose 2-1
Or lose 6-5
What’s the difference.
Goal differential is the only thing that matters.
Larsson Shuts down McDavid
Eichel and the 2C should put the points up.
It’s really not difficult. |

They matter. I've already pointed out that he produces like a 3rd liner in terms of EV points.
But yes, he doesn't ever see PP or OT time, and Eichel is the center who closes out games and getrs empty net points.
He has a positive goal differential on an awful team starting 80% of the time in the D zone.
He's good. It is what it is |

Every swinging d!ck on this board wanted to throw Larsson off a bridge, but now he's the second coming of Guy Carbonneau.

What scares me is that of the people who are debating me, im pretty sure at least 50% would protect Larsson over Olofsson in an expansion draft |

Not necessarily. I'd need to see if Olofsson get's better or if he is still just a P specialist |

If Larry leaves we probably allow an additional 30 goals if we don’t replace him with somebody as good as him defensively.
Then let’s say we add a 2C and we score an additional 30 goals.
We still have a negative goal differential and still suck.
Unless Ullmark turns into a Vezina candidate over night and starts stopping 20 high ranger scoring chances a game |

I did.

I've dug in.
Fix the 2nd line. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 😊 |
