What sorta bothers me is that all too often, people look at offer sheets like you're just buying a house. Like hey, I have this money, why don't I spend it on this house?

Well, see, it's much more complicated than that. That owner wants that house. Sure, he'll sell it to you, but you need to pay way more than it's worth. Let's say you have the cash in hand to pay for a year's mortgage, but all the sudden, you're way over budget, and now you're house poor. The seller is smiling and skipping to the bank with all his money.

This is how 99% of RFAs are viewed. You need to pay with assets and an outrageous salary. Double whammie. When you can simply pay with similar or lower assets and a lower salary with a trade.

Then you have dog and pony bullpoop like the Habs and Aho. Buyer A (Habs) submits a low bid so buyer B (Canes) can be like ok let's get rid of this guy and buy this house.

You wanna make Offer Sheets a reality? Take away the pick compensation. All of it. Take it away. Give the team losing the player a compensatory pick that's 1 round lower than the player was drafted from. Or a 7th for a UDFA.

Watch the carnage.

This will completely eliminate bridge contracts. The entire contract system will be flipped on it's (frank)ing head and it will be anarchy.
