nice...i tend to believe that things would be a whole lot worse - Michael Pachla
Yeah, me too.
And if they moved Joker and Dahlin to the number 1 pairing they would be guys to rip on with their advanced stats and the eye tests.
I think they should move up to the top 4 and take it from there this year and not throw them to wolves and beat their confidence down, especially Dahlin's.

but many on here truly believe that risto and montour are poor defensemen who are worse for this team than a 6/7 or a ???
how would adams get a "real" center for the garbage that those two offer? - Michael Pachla
You're moving the goal posts, but a package with one of them, plus Mitts and Samuelson gets a good center
The other one plus next year's first gets a good winger |

Without taking into consideration any additional moves apart from the speculated Montour trade this is what my preference would look like.
Dahlin-Miller
McCabe-Joker
Bryson-Risto

so one of those poor defensemen, plus an 8th-overall "bust" and a big, anti-analytics defenseman will get the job done?
what was it?...weber, ennis and a 2nd?
i believe one of risto or montour should go...moving both would do more harm than good...that's my hill...

Not real happy with Dahlin and Miller being the top D. Joker, McCabe and Risto are better than both of them defensively. |

I'll take it and run with it. Firstly, I never said montour is garbage, he is not. But we need a center, we do not need Montour. Risto, im done with. Risto plus a 1st would absolutely get you a top-6 RW tho imo.
I'm sick of the status quo. Send them out, roll with this
Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart
Olofsson-center x-winger y
Mojo-Cozens-Kahun
Asplund-Lazar-okposo

If they both get traded you have
A first overall defensemen in his third season
Another first rounder in his third season
Two veteran middle pairing guys in McCabe and Miller
I think they’d be fine. I’d also advocate for going after someone like David Savard if they moved both. He’d be a one year stop gap vet presence on the right |

trading them is fine...but who are you replacing them with?
and..."we've sucked with them so it can't be any worse" doesn't count - Michael Pachla
Dahlin DeMelo
Dillon Joker
McCabe Miller
Risto or Montour in package for 2C, D Strome
Montour or Risto in Package for RW
Draft Rossi or Holtz

Risto is not good defensively. I would heavily shelter the Bryson-Risto pairing and give them majority o-zone starts.
McCabe-Joker would get the more defensive usage.
Dahlin-Miller would get both o-zone and d-zone starts.
I’d play all 3 pairs pretty evenly with Dahlin getting closer to 22-25 minutes a night due to PP usage. |

I think optimizing the defense starts with Dahlin. He gets the significant ozone starts.
I also can't imagine Risto actually being used in a third pair roll here, where he's not getting key offensive or defensive starts.

Back to 89's comment about Monte as a trade option with Wings, Lighning, or Calgary.
I just don't see what would be reasonable and attractive from the Wings. I don't see them moving any of Larkin, Mantha nor Bertuzzi. Zadina maybe, but in an adjustment to the NA game year he posted 0.50ppg tells me he is part of the future as well.

I don’t look at it as first pair, second pair, third pair.
Like I mentioned in my previous post I would give them all similar minutes at even strength.
I would just use the Risto pairing in more offensive situations and the McCabe pairing in more defensive situations |
