Not a bold prediction but the Habs will not be signing any ufa’s. Nobody wants to play there and it’s usually a massively overpriced venture. All teams should avoid it unless it’s for some filler on the bottom six or a third pairing D.

would love to see pietrangelo in the new blue and white. Very long shot but you never know.

4.59 in projected cap space.

Only way is for Dubby to make bold decisions.
Trade - Nylander, KK or Johanson kerfoot

what ever happened to "build from the net out"

- Revised12

Just for fun I was experimenting with the Leafs Salary Cap on cap central awhile back. I wanted to see if the Leafs could keep Nylander and sign Pietrangelo.

I subtracted Kapanen, Johnsson, Kerfoot and Holl. Let Barrie, Clifford and Ceci walk. Promoted Robertson, Sandin and Liljegren. Added Lehtonen. Re-signed Spezza for league minimum.

Signed Joe Thornton for league minimum. Signed Pietrangelo to a hometown discount of 8 mil AAV. Gave Mikheyev and Dermott modest raises. Engvall, Gauthier and Korshkov were on the team.

And I still couldn't get the Leafs under $81.5 mil. Lowest I got was 83.5 mil. Maybe Dubas can do it, who knows?

does not work without letting one of the big contract go - i.e. Nylander.

with 4.5 in cap space and stil having to sign Mikeylev and Dermott, and maybe look to re-sign Clifford and even gauthier - no room.

they would have to do a Kapanen deal and take on a lower salary D perhaps?

Yeah I couldn't make it work keeping Nylander. Unless you trade Dermott and replace him with a $1 mil or less defenseman. Even then it would be tight!

Leafs are screwed for cap space - unless they do something BOLD - trade nylander?
Pietrangelo should find a way to stay in STL
I think Krug might be gone - wanting big bucks - detroit??? Michigan native
Hall staying in Arizona - over 50% - uncertain times - get the security and ope they can take another step forward

"Which in my opinion they probably should, unless they land Pietrangelo in Toronto..."

Interesting. And what salaries and players are the Leafs expecting to shed if they are going to add another $9m salary to their cap?

- spatso

Normally I’d say the Leafs would dump all their poopty contracts on Melnyk’s front lawn in exchange for some Mohegan Sun Casino Chips, but they don’t really have any boat anchor contracts left. Rest assured Dubas will exploit every cap loophole he can to make it work.

I've been to games in Albany. It's a pretty decent arena (by AHL standards) but if your living on or near Long Island it's not very convienient.

Habs are going to be a juggernaut next season. Offer sheeting Barzal. Signing Krug. Drafting Lafreniere.

Doubt it, he seems pretty adamant about staying in Boston. Being in the midst of the Habs-Bruins rivalry it's unlikely he jumps ship and signs with them. Habs have the money to throw and possibly Claude to entice him but even still can't see it happening. Exactly the type of guy they need on the left side though

Why wouldnt the isles just play in Bridgeport instead of Albany, its their AHL area and much closer to Long Island than Albany, also a ferry from Long Island would drop you off right by the arena in Bridgeport?
I still assume they will get a deal in place with Nassau Coliseum.

The last thing the Isles need is another high priced defenseman! Please have a clue, the Isles need to shed Leddy and Boychuk's contracts!

Boston has 18 players on roster signed thru next year. 18 mil to sign 4/5 more. RFA’s Grzelcyk and Bjork won’t cost much. DeBrusk doesn’t have arbitration rights. I see him getting either 1 or 2 years for maybe 3.5-4m tops. Chara possibly retires if they win cup. If he don’t, he comes back on same deal, 2m...So, IMO, those 4 aren’t getting more than 10 all together. That leaves 8 mil for Krug, who I think could come in less.

Romanov is legit flying into Toronto right now to serve his 14 before joining the team. I can't believe the Tzar era is finally here. You better clench your little buttcheeks tighter, you're going to hate this kid!
