Good article from the Athletic on how Green has deployed his players. The premise of the article was who does Green trust but also is some interesting insight into how Green might deploy his lines.
Last year the top 2 defenceman league wide who were on the ice against elite talent were Edler followed by Tanev at around 50% of their shifts. This year Hughes and Myers have helped those two take a reduced load. 36% of their shifts while Hughes and Myers around 32%.
Only 4 NHLers spent less time against elite talent than Gaudette at around 14% of his shifts last year and 16% of his shifts this year. He's been used primarily as a 4th line to score rather than grind or shutdown which certainly plays to his strengths.
I'm not sure that this necessarily means that his matchups have been effective but some of that would be dependent upon the players. Despite Beagle and Sutter previously getting consistently played in the defensive zone they also get outscored at a margin higher than most other players in those roles.
Love Carol, but I highly recommend signing up for the Athletic for great content. I think it costs me 8$ a month? I believe you can purchase it in a way that supports Carol as well iirc. - belcherbd
Thanks for the break down of the article. Always interesting to see the underlying numbers past the eye test.
Green is a legitimate poker player — pretty sure there’s an article on him winning in big tournaments — so doesn’t surprise me that he is so very calculated in his match ups.
I like that but JV out LE is in. Stability not a time to mess around. - Nighthawk
LE will provide zero offence against a Wild team you need to press and score on then out defend. JV is the extra weapon in the bottom 6 and he can add hitting too which LE also doesn't do.

Maybe he's not showing his hand in these practices for the bottom 6 mix. Its an Ace up his sleeve to out score the Wild. They can prep for our top 6 whichever combo it may be but how can they cover 4 lines that can score. Which is why he may go with Zacmac Ferland and JV over adding PK specialists.
Apparently you can't post in the flyers forum, Apparently they don't have humour or a funny bone. Apparently deleting my comment and Apparently making me verify my account. Apparently that's the way it goes, and Apparently the flyers fans are Apparently very thin skinned.
“Micheal Ferland said his biggest issue with concussion symptoms was all the bodies and quick movement of players on the ice. Described it as feeling drunk when symptoms came on. He said physicality was never an issue, and he still plans to play that style of game. #Canucks”

If you love it, awesome, enjoy it. Why do they always go for the middle to touch the ball down in the end zone? - Pacificgem
Where you dot the ball down is where you kick the convert from, so if you dot it down in the corner your convert kick will be from the sideline, easiest kick is between the posts.

To bad you didn't see to the end, the difference was a missed convert because he had to kick it from out wide and it sailed across the face of the posts
