It's almost like people forget the Leafs have faced bigger and better teams over the last 3 years and they didn't get rolled because of the physicallity. But yet it's a forgone conclusion that a team with significantly inferior offense than what the leafs have faced is going to walk all over them. - burn
If you listen, anyone who picks Columbus litterally avoids any talk of goal scoring in the series. They also, if discussing faults, will only discuss Leafs D.
There is a bigger disparity in terms of Leafs Vs. BJS in offensive numbers than Leafs Vs BJS in defensive numbers.
Columbus was 20th in hits. They don't hit much at all. This narriative is wacky

Been saying all along.
Anyone who mentions beating Tampa last year ignores that they lost their starting goalie and their top 2 (by miles) offensive players.
I just find it whacky that people talk about how clb will physically manhandle the leafs and the leafs won't be able to handle it and will wilt. Last year the leafs faced a better defensive team, a better offensive team and a bigger physical team than clb and they were able to control play at 5on5. |

Oh and you know that would be a MASSIVE talking point if the Leafs lost their 2 top scorers. |

Clb had lists of injuries, but no talk of leafs.
Clb lost a total of 21 games to their top 2 dmen. Rielly lost 23 alone. |

"Modern Lens". ROTFL. - RogerRoeper
lots of scratches on that lens..... Makes it hard to see through.
Saw another article about this that the headline was "disgraced coach" and people were complaining about the headline say how is he disgraced. Have they not been paying attention. |

Yup. I wanted to scream listening to Burke the other day. He claimed people oly talk about Mikeyev coming back and not the Blue Jackets players. WTF? Who is he listening to?
Keefe had the Leafs at a 105 point pace with all those injuries and poopty goaltending. |

Can't be Lums. You'd need 3 guys. Or a 3 Richarded guy - Canada Cup
You mean like a guy named 'Richard Bogne Wang' with a silent 'G', or a guy with 3 physical richards?

Was watching the season recap on SN, and the one stat of the pitifully small set they showed was Hits...
44-35 for the Leafs.
The narrative doesn't really fit the facts. Granted I can't be bothered to check out the added physicality the guys coming back from injury might have.

It never does. People are lazy.
The leafs are soft cause Willie has long blonde hair.
The leafs out hit the Bruins last year, but grit!!! The narrative that the leafs were shutdown by a bigger gritty team but the facts don't support it in the slightest. |

I may be dense but why do hits matter in a short series when all the players are rested and healthy? Are players afraid? Is Scott Stevens still playing? Is hitting the only way to retrieve a puck? I’d be much more interested in takeaways and giveaways.
If I’m missing something, please explain. |

you need toughness to win in the playoffs, and i guess hits is a proxy for how tough you played.

Honestly though.
Very few Leaf players really hit.
They do hard bumps after the opposing player has passed the puck.
We don't have to pretend this leaf team is something that they aren't. |

Exactly.
Not all hits are equal.
No one is worried about getting hit by a leaf player unless it is Muzzin or maybe Clifford.
Everyone else just kind of bumps into you.

nobody wants to get injured during an exhibition game, most guys took it as a intense workout, nothing more. This will be different come this weekend, I expect some games to be very physical from the get go, best of 3 leaves no time to set things up, teams will have to come out hard, even more the underdogs like Columbus, they will want to slow down the greatest offensive team ever built |
