Good point ....

And just so I'm clear we can't wish Covid on any of the blue jackets, right?

- The Law

I still think they should prevent Matthews from playing just to be safe he still doesn't carry the virus.

Just like they did in the exhibition game.

I think you're being overly sensitive about this ...possibly because you're invested in the argument.

CC pointed out the error in Cain's choice ..that's it. And he's 100% accurate. Can went to an large event (bad idea), didn't wear a mask (bad idea), and was surrounded by people not wearing masks (bad idea). None of it was necessary and he had underlying health concerns.

Maybe in his mind the increase in risk was worth it but those same people attending his funeral may, in hindsight, disagree.

- The Law

how am I invested in this argument?
I've been quite explicit on the need to take the maximum of precautions.
however, it would never come to my mind to make a comment like that after a person had died from covid - it's just bad manners/bad taste imo.
(and then again, quite sure that all of us have (knowingly or unknowingly) not always fully followed all the recommendations/precautions)

Cain dying is a prime example of science-denial in the US.

A large segment of the population is wilfully-ignorant of science. Any science that contradicts their previously-held beliefs is disbelieved. This is dangerous and not necessary. Factual information is available to all, free of charge, on the internet. To get one's "science" from random YouTube channels or Facebook groups is not a good idea, when scientific/medical journals like Nature, Science, New England Journal of Medicine, and Lancet are readily available. Many of the published articles and papers are geared towards consumption by the general public and don't require a degree to digest.

Global warming? Fake news.

Crazy-ass anti-vax conspiracy theory on YouTube - TRUTH!

Carl Sagan warned us about this. Isaac Asimov warned us about this.

And the good/bad thing about science - it doesn't care if you believe it or not.

America is slipping back into the Dark Ages. Woo(frank)ery is winning the day.

As a clear arbiter of morality - I can say it would be in bad taste to wish Covid on any Blue Jacket players.

Unless they score an OT goal or something that really pisses me off.

Go Leafs.

agree with you, except for the bolded.
scientists mainly publish to get funding - and in general are very very bad in explaining their findings in lay-mans terms.
(and it's why sub-par research sometimes becomes more popular - just because the scientist behind it is a very good public speaker / writer)

honestly i'm not sure people that go to a president for medical advice should be take very seriously, and i don't think they can be protected from themselves.
(it's the USA, where startbucks coffee cups have to have a message 'beverage might be hot' and bleach containers have the text 'do not drink').

- MaximusAurelius

And yet you think a 76 year old cancer survivor, who chose to go to an indoor rally in Tulsa without a mask, and without any kind of social distancing, bears no responsibility for contracting the virus.

You can't have it both ways, Max.

Americans are either idiots for taking medical advice from Trump, or they are responsible for their own actions.

Hint: Cain was not an idiot. He made a calculated risk - with his own health - to further an idiotic political agenda.

He pushed his chips to the centre of the table and lost. Nobody else pushed his chips there.

I didn't say that.
I was just pointing out it was very bad taste to highlight this after he died. (and again, it was again wrapped into a 'look at how dumb Trump is' package - somehow using some guy's death to highlight make a point that everyone agrees with and is made now 100 times already).

Ontario Students and staff will have to self screen every day but won't be given temperature checks.

Students from grade 4 - 12 will be required to wear masks in all shared areas, including hallways and classrooms.

Not mandatory for kids Gr 3 and below.

So a restaurateur from Prince Edward County strongly encouraged Herman Cain to attend Trump's Tulsa rally?

Well, that's certainly stupid interesting.

Your exact words:

"it's quite false and vile to assume and project that somehow a mortal victim of an infectious disease is responsible himself for his own death."

So yeah, you did say that.

You said exactly franking that.

So don't take this as a direct shot at Kristen Shilton, because I think she does a great job. This is a shot at all sports reporters in all sports.

But since her twitter feed is in front of me, here's some memorable quotes she has provided:

Tyson Barrie on William Nylander, sitting to his left: "Willy's nasty. He's got world-class hands and vision and he's so crafty. He'll sneak up on you and grab it and find a guy back-door. Willy is a world-class playmaker."

Nylander: "That's very nice of you, Tys."

- - - - - - - -

Tyson Barrie on life in the bubble: "There's lots of food around, which is nice, so that's good."

- - - - - - - - -

William Nylander on cultivating motivation: "I want to be a dominant player out there. That's my goal every day to go out there and bring it. Sometimes Sheldon has to kick me in the butt, but that's good."

- - - - - - - - - -

Jake Muzzin on #Leafs proving themselves in postseason: "We have a lot of guys in here that are hungry to win. We have some youth, we have some experience and we have an excited group in there, so there's lots to prove going into the playoffs and our team is ready."

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Why do reporters bother to ask these questions? And more importantly, why do reporters continue to report these vanilla answers that provide absolutely no insight whatsoever?

It's filler. It's nothing but filler. And it's lazy.

It's almost like people forget the Leafs have faced bigger and better teams over the last 3 years and they didn't get rolled because of the physicallity. But yet it's a forgone conclusion that a team with significantly inferior offense than what the leafs have faced is going to walk all over them.
- burn

makes perfect sense.

on the other had - Barrie looks like he's in mid-season defensively inept form - so there's that factor.... I can Barrie having a "Gardiner-like" impact... oh man if it goes five games.... sit that guy down!

there is a difference in not taking on the proposed counter-measures, and saying that the guy died because of his own choices.
what information do you have on how/where he got infected anyways?

the Bobbies of this world are part of the reason it's so difficult to contain the spread of the virus.
however, I would never rejoyce from anything bad happening to the Bobbies of this world (unlike our friend the Che Guevarra lover)
