To deny racism doesn't exist or media motivated is simply idiotic. I am a black man and I've had my fair share of white people (not all white people) come at me aggressive with with their racist views, simple because I was in their presence and simple because I look different. Some elders just let things slip because they’re old fashion and you can’t teach and old dog new tricks. Being called a Tribesman, aboriginals or a N*gger unprovoked within a span of 20 minutes because I'm black is racist. With this said, being black has never held me back from my own person successes. We all have the ability no matter what color you are to make the right or wrong choices. You commit a crime you go to jail. You sell drugs you go to jail. You kill someone you go to jail, no matter what color you are. I think we're at a point that maybe we should check ourselves. We've had a black present. Black congressmen. Black chief of police here in Michigan. The list goes on. No matter what you look like, if you choose to dress like a business man, you're gonna come off a lot less intimidating as someone who chooses to dress like someone who prefers to wear a tank top to show off their tattoos. I'm not saying it's wrong to dress this way, I'm saying you're less likely to draw unwanted attention. Now you may look a certain way people don't like which is unavoidable, so the key is how you talk to people and god forbid, put yourself in a situation that gets you in trouble by actually doing something wrong. Do I believe in racial profile? I absolutely! But I also believe in Consequences for your actions. Robbing stores, assaulting someone. Don't do this!
Not at all am I saying that black people cannot be racist against white people, that’s ridiculous of course they can. What I’m saying is there is a history of oppression and pain that goes back decades against black people that has still carried over even to this day. There is no “Just get over it” until active change has been made. - SuperSchennBros
My friend, this is by far the most lucid and intelligent post you have ever made. It would be interesting to meet you some time. Like I said. You have more restraint. I'm offended on so many levels by what you have to deal with. I walked out of a diner in SC in 1980 with a black co worker. 3 other guys ate their lunch. I can't stand that or put up with it. Had to fire a kid once. Didn't let my black service manager know what the deal was. Made me (frank)ing crazy.
I have had a window into your world. I've shared some of it with people I care about.
My only point to you is don't paint the whole country with the broad brush. I've seen the dark under belly. Fought against it. But I've seen so much more good in people. |

Have you ever thought to just ignore the responses? I get today's thread is more robust than the standard Schenn discussions. So maybe not applicable to today.
I just think a lot of folks know they will get a rise out of you so they keep egging you on. - mickel25

Dude, I've had black friends my whole life. I've worked with black men and women. I've worked FOR black men. I've hired black men and women. I've dated black women. I married a PuertoRican woman. I've lived and worked all over the US. I have a huge wealth if PERSONAL experience seeing AND dealing with racist behavior. It wasn't directed at me but at someone I cared about. I was just the spic lover or N word lover. I've fought people over this. But in all of my travels I have found that this is NOT most people. Our country has come a long way. In a relative short time. It is the brightest hope in the world. You should know. You chose to leave your country to move here.
BTW, I've been stuck in Milton, ON since March. I love this country too. It's safer here than Jersey is. I'm only 45 minutes from the Flyers.😁 let's do that hockey! - jaws1955
Some times one can be very close to a situation and think you understand but then be surprised.
When I was a young man I dated a lot. And there was one woman, who looks-wise was above my league, who for some reason hung out with me. And she would go on and on about how men objectify women, and I would be like, yeah, I know, I am a young guy, and I have known plenty of women.
Then one day, she proposed an experiment. We walked through downtown in summer, and she said: don't look at anything, just look at the guy's eyes who are walking by us.
So I did, and wow, was it eye-opening, no pun intended. It was like a formula. Of the 200 odd men we passed, I would say 190 did the following thing.
1. Eyes look at face.
2. Eyes drop to chest.
3. Eyes come back to face.
It was as though the guy walking next to the girl did not exist.
Now suppose you are a woman, and this is your existence, I suspect it will color your attitude towards life quite a bit, positively or negatively. You are not anonymous even when no one knows you. You are always the source of covert desire. |

If I said whole country, that’s extreme but I’m just expressing my experiences of the last eight years. The good does outweigh that bad and not that it’s anyone’s business (ftown), I moved here for my father. He’s knocking on 70 and doesn’t have great health. He lives alone, so I’m near by for him. |

I get into the same tussle every week because my opinions or views aren’t acceptable for some of you. Their just thoughts and opinions and I’m not going back on them because it Conveniences some of you. |

And you shouldn't. But you also should respect when others do that with there own opinions. It shouldn't turn into people are attacking you because they disagree with you as vehemently as you disagree with them.

Glad you have your father in your life. Lost my mother when I was 16 and my father when I was 30. Enjoy all the time you can with him. Wish every day I'd had more.
No one should ever have to deal with what you do.
I've seen up close and personal. I've also had my own bad experiences. People can be horribly cruel.
I was a skinny kid with glasses growing up. One of the class bullies took an interest in me. I was literally punched kicked and beaten on a daily basis. This lasted from 4th grade through 8th. 9th grade I shot up and made the hockey team. But had 4 years if living hell before that.
We have all had bad experiences that shape our lives. I've still seen way more good.
Anyway, God bless, enjoy your dad. |

Yes, if we all respect one another enough to listen to the thoughts and opinions of others, whether we agree or not, and to not be defensive if our views are challenged in a reasonable fashion, won’t that be the day.

I read your independent voter post with interest but felt like any reply would be me poking the can of worms over again. I have become very disenchanted with politics and it’s been a very long time since I voted for someone because I genuinely liked them and their platform and truly believed in them.
It’s been a thought that maybe someone in my own family will run for office. Not me of course (Hulk smash). Then I imagine what that would mean for the kids and all the family. Are we strong enough to thrive or would we even survive? And it’s this thought process that has lead me to believe that the country is in the condition it’s in because good people aren’t ready to pay the high price to fix it.

Story time...
So about three weeks prior to Covid I walk into my local bar and I get served by my usual waitress, who is a very attractive woman. I’m on one end of the bar and on the other end is her husband who notices me. He flags me over. At first I told him “I don’t think so” because you have to know who this guy is. Clever and witty guy, late 40’s, does aggressively like to talk politics as a trump supporter but he also likes to have fun at people’s expense. Anyway, I give in and come over.
First things first, he starts off by calling me a Canadian queer. I do yoga, I’ve come along way with my practice with balancing poses and standing on my head. Well he Seek me out on Facebook and he calls me out for posting that kind of thing because I’m looking for attention. He might be right but regardless of why I do, I’m proud of it.
I tell him to settle down because I don’t want things to become like the last time we spoke where he called me a Tribesman. He responds with, “I wouldn’t call you a tribesman. This time I would call you an aboriginal”. At this point his wife the bartender is watching the conversation and saying nothing and the other young bartender is just coming off her shift and clearly doesn’t know what an aboriginal is. The guy went as far as looking up an aboriginal, with a painted face, missing teeth and holding his phone up to my head to compare me to an actual aboriginal. I then say out loud “this is some pretty racist poop”. The young bartender calls me out by saying “he’s not racist, you know him”. Yeah, I know him because he’s my usual server’s husband, it’s not like we hangout. At this time my bartender is shrugging it off with the comment of “It’s not a big deal, I get called things all the time”, when is reality if he were anyone else, he’d get kicked out. Plus I can only imagine how tough this tiny blond with big boobs gets called regularly but it can’t be anywhere near the direction her husband is going in.
Anyway I sit there and finish my beer. Bartender goes back to serving the other side of the bar. Young bartender gets off her shift and leaves. The husband then says while nobody is listening “Well since you already think I’m racist, I might as well say all you n*ggers look the same time me”. I had enough, I get up and walk away and as I’m walking away he calls me a wimp. You have to understand that there are cameras in this bar and the bartender is already defending her husband as if his obnoxious behavior is no big deal. I attack him, it doesn’t workout for me no matter what.
This is only the most recent of racist behavior I’ve experienced of my life back in March.
As for media being what pushes racism, that’s just an idiotic take. Racism is very real. Gun lovers are very real and I’ll defend their right to bear arms at any cost. I know this because I once worked in the sporting goods department in a Walmart that sold guns for hunting and I’ve heard all the conversations. Don’t tell me my experiences aren’t accurate from your bubble in philly unless you’ve lived the same experiences.
Heck, you can’t even have a different take on this board without people getting aggressive. You two are only two examples. - SuperSchennBros
Sorry to hear that, state? You in the sticks of New hampshire or some sh!t? |

Whatever they are doing , idk if that has something to do with them trying to show the speed, it’s awful and needs to be fixed. Twitter people going at them? - ClaudeFather
They have many more angles and many more cameras now with spectators gone. The overhead camera will probably have some NFL type Skycam footage. You might see it overhead for a faceoff, refs eye-view.
The jumpiness you refer to might be the techs getting too excited with deciding which feed to show at any given time. Probably some experimentation too.
I am not aware of much noise on social media. But I may be the wrong guy to talk about that.
It will settle down soon, I am sure. |

This sounds real good in theory. I just hope they use good directors who don't go crazy with their new toys.
I actually think the new camera angles will be much more suited towards replays and highlights between periods. Let the tried and true angles stay during the broadcast. We all know what we are looking for, our viewing habits are trained from years of watching. I believe its why we seem to be able to follow a game way better than non hockey watchers who complain incessantly about not seeing the puck and cant follow the action.

I think some of this is true. I'm stuck in Ontario. Had to watch the Flyers on my US phone. None of the 5 tv's or 3 laptops or 2 tablets could get it. Yesterday all games were on Sn1, the only AN we don't get. Watched on my phone again.
I've noticed quick camera motions. Thought it was screen size related. Guess not. |
