Okay but why are they trading their top center for a #4 defenseman and a 23 year old nobody? You don't think they can get a better offer? - BINGO!
Thank you!

They could, but they have a couple good prospects ready to make the jump, and a couple people I talk to say they want to switch Lindholm back to C. Maybe not that package but if it gets the conversation started can always be tweaked. |

With massive raises coming for Hughes, petterson, while retaining toffoli, markstrom, and tanev this year. Everyone on Calgary is already locked up long term and the ones that aren’t will be a squeeze if we look to improve our current roster this off-season which I’m assuming Calgary doesn’t. - RedC21
Petey/Hughes = NEXT YEAR. When Sutter, Pearson, Edler, Benn come off the books = 16mil followed by Beagle, Roussel, Loungo, Eriksson, the year after another 16 mil.
I didnt realize we had a gun to our heads to re-sign Toffoli, Markstrom and Tanev, is that some new rule I don't know about?
Tkachuk and Gaudreau need the same kinda raises the year after Petey and Hughes. Don't act like you won't have the same issues - it's a league wide struggle. You have Giordano, Hanifan, Andersson signed for next year but what are you gonna do with Brodie, Hamonic, Gustafsson, Kylington? Resigned your D - goodbye 16mil. |

There are a lot of holes with so many contracts up this year, so with only three moves allowed, multiple player trades will be needed, and its best to focus on teams with a cap crunch.
1. Tyler Johnson and Palat from TB for Colin Miller. Helps TB with their cap and it looks like they need some help on RD. Johnson can play 2C for a year until Cozens is ready. Then they switch. Palat is a decent top 9 option.
2. Jake Allen and Jaden Schwartz from StL for 2 2nds. Again St.L is in a cap crunch and moving these players could allow them to resign their captain. Allen actually had a good year last year and could be a decent option in net. Schwartz puts up a lot of points when healthy. Both are UFA's at the end of next year so they can be resigned or sold off at the trade deadline for picks.
3. Sign Taylor Hall. 5 years, $50M. The term is the key based on his age, I wouldn't go longer. Play him with Eichel and Skinner to form potentially one of the best lines in the league, and hopefully keep Eichel happy.
Line combos
Skinner Eichel Hall
Schwartz Johnson Reinhart
Palat Cozens Olafson
Kahun Johansson Thompson - flyer4ever75
Hard pass on #3. A 50 million $ 5 year commitment to a UFA is the last move we should make.

The first line costs 29m...that’s s problem. - bruceflyers
Meh.
Toews, Kane and XXX would cost that
McDavid and Draisaitl, cost that alone roughly.
It can work.
I doubt it would ever happen |

1) A deal centered around sending Tyler Johnson to BUF for Ristolainen. Obviously BUF would need to sweeten the deal. Maybe add a mid-level prospect or a 2nd. Open to ideas to tweak.
2) Sign Krug
3) Leaving Dylan Cozens off the table, I'd be sending a 1st, top prospect and someone like Kahun to ANA for Gibson. I have to think ANA is on the verge a rebuild. Gibson is wasted in ANA. |

33 and 35?
Yeah, they're older guys now by NHL standards.
I'm not saying he's not still good I'm just saying most guys are done before they're Sid's age. |

It may keep Eichel happy. Other than Dahlin and I guess Reinhart you don't have any big commitments coming up. It's 5 years for a 28 year old, who if he played with Eichel would probably get 90pts a year. |

Well our last two dips into UFA resulted in Skinner and Okposo and were still on the hook for 63 MILLION after this season. I rest my case.

Fixing the Sabres:
1. Hire a Director of Hockey Ops who will tell it like it is. Maybe Brian Burke?
2. Offer Miller or Montour to Edmonton for Nugent-Hopkins. Risto stays put!
3. Put Skinner with Eichel and his buddy Reinhardt and let them play. I can think of 26,000,000 reasons to leave them together! |

buffalo only has 10 players under contract for next year and has $34M in cap space. the goalie situation is no problem as 1 is under contract and one is an RFA. but do they think about robin lehner?
on D, i am only worried about signing brandon montour. He is also an RFA. they have 4 forwards under contract for next year but 4 additional forwards are RFAs which also gives some leverage. that leaves 5 UFA spots. do they resign vesey or girgensons or both for depth and then have 3 open forward spots?
for bigger pushes: #1) UFA offer for taylor hall? 2) call the leafs as they have $4m in cap space but only 16 players under contract so i will ask about nylander or kapanen and trade for either or both and 3) call the hawks about debrincat and the oilers about athanasiou. trading for 1 of them.

1. Trade couple seconds and prospects to Seattle so they take Okopso and would aslo give Sabres the right to choose 2-3 players from the exposed players...if have to throw in young Larson or Girgensons fine...but could grab couple nice true third liner grinder types or maybe even an older number 2 C
2. Trade Risto and number 1 pick for Laine
3. Sign Sami Vatanen to replace Risto
Check in w Dom; see if he still wants to play

The only thing the Sabres have worth trading for is this year's 1st and Cozens. Their prospect pool sucks. Its a bad fit for the hawks.
Plus, they would be stupid to move either of those pieces. I guess Johnson but the Hawks prospects on D are just as good or better. |

1-get a time machine
2-make sure the flux capacitor works
3-go back in time and don't re sign Skinner, don't sign Okposo, don't trade ROR, re sign Lehner, re do some previous first round draft picks. - Ross77

1. Sign the 7 RFA's and UFA's Girensons, Vesay, and Larsson (UFA's for the same or less from their last deals).
2. Trade Risto to Toronto for Johnson and Mikheyev
3. Trade Okposo (retain $1M) Hutton and a 1st for Cholowski and a 5th
4. Sign or trade for a short term (2 yrs max) goalie to expose at ex draft and play half the next season's games. there will be a glut of goalies available for the start of next season |
