Jannik Hansen on Virtanen: "Jake has all the tools. He can skate, shoot, and hit. He can skate like Mayson Raymond, but has 40 pounds on him. He can hit like Raffi Torres. You're dying for him to put it all together." #Canucks

Kid needs to get in there and kill it or he’s done in Vancouver.

he seems to be satisfied being an nhl player. he doesn't intuitively feel like he needs to push himself all that hard.
i don't think that changes in vancouver. guys like him who then turn it around do so after hitting rock bottom either outside the rink (drugs/law) or inside the rink (about to be waived/washed from league after going through a few teams.)

Unfortunately, we won't see him be successful in Vancouver. Maybe a trade to Columbus would be beneficial for Virtanen. Torts will make or break him.
The Blue Jackets are my Cinderella team for this thingy.

I'm not a big fan of his, I was at one time, however, I don't think his situation is as bad as it's portrayed. He's only 23 and he's gotten better every year, he surely would've hit 20 goals this year had the season continued.
Obviously not a driven person though, all the physical talent in the world but doesn't have the mindset to put it all together, as you said, he's just happy living the NHL life.
Personally I think he has been successful, I just think he's always got to be pushed, and that's what coaching staffs, wherever he is, will tire of. Consistency just isn't there with him.

that's the problem: there is truth in that sentiment and that's jake's downfall. he knows he's been good... enough (or almost.)

It's too bad his ass needs to be kicked all the time. If you look at the stats and what he meant to the Canucks over the 69 games he played he was an important player.
4th in PP goals
4th in Even Strength goals
4th in hits
5th in total goals
For secondary scoring only Tanner Pearson was better than him behind Miller, Pettersson, Horvat, Hughes & Boeser...the cream of our crop.
Unfortunately i live in vancouver and have to put up with the hockey unwashed. At least they finally named a canadian kid for a captain. That’s been what...over 20 years in the making?!
Grew up in manitoba...as a kid...bobby clarke was my hero!

he really has progressed over his time here. i don't mean to make it seem that he hasn't gotten better and produced more every year.
i guess i'm stuck in the draft position mentality and i should move on from that.
but... on the other hand, the team is at the point where they have to decide on "what he is." is the team happy with a 2nd/3rd line tweener with issues or are they willing to roll the dice to help out a more pressing concern (defence. )
