Tyler Cameron: "Real" Hockey Begins for Blackhawks
The Hawks had a nice exhibition win on Wednesday beating the Blues 4-0.
To my eye, the Blues were playing at about 70-80% while the Hawks were closer to going all out.
Let's review some positives from that game, as well as chat with Sean Maloughney, the Oilers writer here at Hockeybuzz to get his thoughts on Edmonton. |

Yeah, really trying to get my wife-lead newest project of painting my 35 year old pool cage, before the games begin.
Really getting excited for the noon came to she the quick pace in that Hurricane-rangers series and then the Hawks and Oileres simply continuing to go back & forth and back & forth with scoring forays.
Call me gambler but if these two extra suited are not part of the rosters I go 11 forwards and play seven defenders. |

Hi Bill!
How you doing over there? - Tyler Cameron
WE are good.
The issue is even though the supermarkets and Lowe's type stores finally do have almost 100% masks, is so many of the family members of friends have had to basically isolate from their 20's -30's members because they are out there at outside bars and establishments regularly with no masks since the rule is loosened outside and so seems to be table to table distancing(?)
Wednesday I repaired my neighbor's pool screen so their cat will get out again and set the wild birds here into a Woodstock like chorus of Eric Burdon's "We gotta get out of tis place."
Thursday took a shopping cart church collected foods to there St. Pete Food depository. (We leftist Marxist Communists still has creation beliefs maybe quite contrary to traditional baptist's beliefs on creation, the Old Testament and the reality of past religious historical readings)
Today I took some one I know a shopping bag of food b/c she walks a mile to the supermarket or only has the dollar General as her supermarket.
Now is the time for me to everything I can that help not hurts all of us moving forward...not the easiest thing.
We basically are outside the critical hot spots and stay away and most stay home as much as possible.
This basically have allowed me to do so much more now that we didn't make our usual grandkid birthday trips to Texas and Hollywood CA and no two trips to Chicago like last year. I never was able to write all the profiles or get close to proofing the typos on Draftsite. And as much as I miss the new hockey, I dont miss the late nights I volunteerily spent in the middle off the night going through prospects.
I guess all the new household chores have made me healthier and mentally strong fro the next couple years... |

To Hockey:
I am with Eddie O
the first game is Crucial.
The 7 defenders amen rotating so fresh guys are out there because I am pretty sure McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are playing 20 plus minutes full tilt.
That big Finn will basically stay positioned and they will dare the Hawks to move the puck in close on offense and HOLD those quick passes and get shots to where he isn't. |

Oilers in 4. However, liking the makeup of the Hawks’ blueline next year. Throw in Mitchell, dump Maatta and the Hawks really look solid on the backend. Keith, Boqvist, de Haan, Murphy, Mitchell, Carlsson, and Beaudin. I think Seabrook will be moved, as he will remove his no-movement clause. Thin #7 can read the writing on the wall that he is not wanted here any longer. I do think the Hawks will eat a large chunk of his cap hit, but I don’t see him in Chicago next season. Hate to see Carlsson go in the expansion draft, but very possible, as the kid looks like a good one. The Hawks are 1-2 years away from making real noise once again, but the future does look good on the backend for a long time to come. |

Tomorrow the Hawks could really use DeBrincat finding his mojo again. He wasn't finding the back of the net but if him and Dach can get a little chemistry that makes the 3rd line actually a danger to be a real factor. Edmonton is stronger down the middle, but I think the Hawks are icing more balance and had an edge when it comes to wingers.
Would be nice to have vintage Dave Bolland/Maria Hossa on the ice. What a difference maker those two guys were. |

Keys to the series:
1) Don't let in soft goals
2) Defend the front of your net & block shots
3) Don't take dumb penalties
4) Win board battles
5) Don't get caught pinching at the blue line without support
6) They are going to try to shut down the Toews Line and out score the Kane line. Our supporting cast (non stars) needs to out play (out score) theirs.
Supporting Cast Key Player in the series- Jame Neal. A rested Hawk killer and playoff performer. Probably on their 4th line. I would like to see Carpenter (not Kampf or Highmore) matched up with him (when their 4th line is not trying to shut down the Toews line).
Interesting Matchup - Colliton vs Tippet. Can Colliton manage the in-game?
Advantage Edmonton, but not that big of an advantage. Crow could steal it, but he will have to stand on his head. Hawks need big contributions from 3rd and 4th lines and for the special teams to be special.

I’m also curious to see how many faceoffs Strome and Dach can win. They need to hold their own. |

This team has no playoff experience. Young forwards thought the regular season was tough wait till Saturday. If we can keep Seeler and Koekkoek watching instead of playing we do stand a chance |

Our forwards must be committed to playing both ways. The defensive effort and coverage cannot be slack. Even Kane has to put forth effort on backcheck. He actually has some very good moments with defensive effort with one fond memory vs Flyers in the first Cup 2010 of the recent Cup run.
This series is not about saying or comparing our top lines against their corresponding line or defense pair match vs each of our lines. No I say it is about five man groups playing well together. We play well within our 5 man groups + Crawford shines = we can win this series
Edmonton must not have a distinct puck control advantage too. We do not have a high percentage of success limiting their speed and top offensive players if we are on our heels way too much.
Colliton with M Crawfoid assistance face being outcoached. I am a tad concerned that Tippet will get his players helping the defense effort more than we will accomplish in that same vein.
The four Stanley Cup Blackhawk veterans stepping up and playing extremely well as difference makers is perhaps asking a lot in the first series in the return to play. Wondering what order fellow fans would rank those four as far as greatest impact to help us win vs the Oilers.
My order: Crawford, Keith, can't decide so I list Toews and Kane behind the other two |

i do wish Shaw was available for this series considering Draisaitl arms got very short any time Shaw was on the ice with him. |

I'm afraid I don't grasp your meaning. Do you mean the 4mins they were on-ice against eachother where the shots for and chances for favoured Draisaitl 6-1 and 7-2 respectively? Or something else? |

I like our chances. I think all the pressure is on Edmonton, and as long as Crawford is sharp, I don’t see this as the cakewalk for the Oil that many of the experts seem to think it is.

Another tip if you have Walmart advertisement pop.up and it is difficult to get rid of the advertisement- they try to award you a prize.
I took the app off phone and just do a Google search. First entry in recent Google history is hockeybuzz because I go to the site often. Sure takes a couple seconds to get to the comments but never Wal-Mart when you choose to get to hocleybuzz this.way |
