I thought so. Florida had some big pushes in the 2nd, but the Isles controlled the play for most of the game. - JimmyP
That was my impression too. Huberdeau and Barkov are a hell of a duo (probably top 5 in the league), and the Islanders stifled them for the most part. |

That was a solid win they carried the play they need to finish more on their grade A chances though - Upstate_isles
..and generate more of them. Fla had the #28 defense in the league, and they held the Isles to 2 goals. That isn't a good sign for going deep.

I hope 55 isn't hurt but if he is I'm confident Greene or dobson can step in and do just as well if not better |

They could probably score more, but Trotz likes to mitigate risk after leads are made. Which I don’t mind, because they sure as hell didn’t win often going full tilt under Weight. |

I get it. D wins....unless you can't score. Everyone was scoring under Weight, everyones scoring went way down under Trotz. We need balance and a damn PP. There's too much scoring talent on this team to be constantly limping along to 1 goal wins, or losses.
If this team meets Carolina or another strong defensive team, they'll get swept. JMO. Isles are good against lean forward, scoring teams because they pounce on mistakes. The show gets flipped when they run into solid defense and patient forwards. Basically, a mirror image of the Isles style. Rod exposed them last year. Others will this year if they don't start scoring. |

Same here. Clean shot to the head, and totally avoidable. I think the Shark effect was in play on that decision, but I would be surprised if the league doesn't suspend 1 or 2 games for that.

Come on that series was 4 0 but they had two goals taken back that at least one im still confused on why and they hit multiple posts and were in that series. I still think they should have won 2 of the first 3 |

Hitting posts doesn't count. They scored what....4 goals in 4 games? Can't win like that. Huri played stay at home defense and jumped on mistakes. It was like watching the Isles play themselves. Play the simple game. |

Point is they needed to capitalize on their chances like they do now, they weren't killed |

I think it’s incredible that they got the call right, reviewed it, then changed it to the wrong call. Also, Butch continually saying it was close made it even more ridiculous and maddening. |

Fair enough. Lets hope they get it together in time....or fall apart before it's too late to enter the lottery.

Most hits to the head aren't intentional. I think the rule is 'avoidable'. Intent to injure just makes the punishment worse.

I put that more on Trotz than I do the skaters. And FWIW, I do agree with you about the PP, which did look a bit better today. |

Well let's see it was late, he was in a vulnerable position (defensless) and it was directly to the head idk what more you need to meet the criteria |

Rule 48.1: Illegal Check to the Head: A hit resulting in contact with an opponent’s head where the head was the main point of contact and such contact to the head was avoidable is not permitted.
In determining whether contact with an opponent’s head was avoidable, the circumstances of the hit including the following shall be considered:
(i) Whether the player attempted to hit squarely through the opponent’s body and the head was not “picked” as a result of poor timing, poor angle of approach, or unnecessary extension of the body upward or outward.
(ii) Whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position by assuming a posture that made head contact on an otherwise full body check unavoidable.
(iii) Whether the opponent materially changed the position of his body or head immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit in a way that significantly contributed to the head contact.
------
For (ii) and (iii), Jb changed his position by lifting his head. If he hadn't, the hit would have been more to the top of his head, not his shoulder. |

Hey Upstate, I agree with you. I’m just postulating on what the officials reasoning might have been, correct or not. |

I was really surprised of the pace, physical play and overall strong level of hockey in our game and others. I thought it would take a few games for timing. Two minutes into the playoff season after four months off Fast got destroyed by Skjei. Wasn’t expecting those types of hits right away. |
