Grinder coach, old school, past his due date. Just ask Elhers.

Maybe it’s because the players on the jets have all vouched for him but I do have time for Maurice. He may be old school but in his presser he admitted he F’d up hard that game so while he is old school I would like to see what changes he makes to his style in game 2. No matter between old school and new school the difference between a good coach and a bad one is their ability to adapt and change to the next game ahead is what determines what category they’re in

Perhaps.

Though I’m sure you must understand how people might question Tkachuk’s sincerity? He’s certainly earned such suspicion.

As a Calgary fan in Ontario I definitely understand the skepticism of this play due to chucky’s reputation. To me the fact that this appears to be a knee injury for sheif is the most telling part. We don’t see where chucky’s foot landed but if it was a blatant kick it would have been an Achilles ala Cooke on Karlsson.

In chucky’s position that play happens in every game you see, he was already in contact with scheif when he tried to dodge the hit, in a normal play scheif’s body would have been the main point of contact but with that dodge all of tkachuck’s force went into scheif’s left leg.

If you slo mo it it looks bad but in real speed the determining factors are where both players were at the beginning of the play and the end. My words may carry no weight in the words of jets fans but if it was what they say it was scheif would have been clutching his ankle on the play not his knee

There's an angle where you can see where his skate makes contact. He does make contact with the blade of his skate right above the Achilles. It's also in a way that it's pretty likely that it's what caused the injury if it's a cut or from getting jammed awkwardly into the boards.

You could also clip it to make it look really bad for Tkachuk because there are a few fractions of a second where it sure does look like he angled his skate to intentionally cut Scheifele. But if you go back another fraction of a second or two, you see that he tries to cut into the ice and his skate skips off the ice and he's fighting his other skate skipping as well. It's pretty obvious that Tkachuk wasn't in control at that point. You can call it reckless but not much more than that.

I agree about wether it’s intent or not. My point is the end result lines up with your analysis. Wether tkachuck got him with the skate blade or not won’t make a difference when the injury comes out as a fracture or a break. Scheif was gripping his leg the same way mcdavid was after his injury last year, not something as easily done as a slice to the back of the leg.

Best case scenario the full impact of tkachuck’s leg/knee smashing into the back of scheif’s left him with a Charlie horse/break/minor tear. Also if there was a slice from tkachuck’s skate we almost certainly would have seen blood. It was a freak accident on a play that turns out alright 9 times out of 10

The frustrating things about Maurice is he refuses to implement a defensive system, any defensive system. He also doesn't, allow his skilled, fast and intelligent forwards to play offensive hockey and Maurice has to stop playing his old slow veterans instead of the Jets younger, faster more skilled players. Maurice's refusal to change or adapt his game plans when they aren't working has caused the Jets potential wins against LV two years ago and St. L last year when the Jets were a stacked team. He has given himself a free year coaching the Jets reasonably with their patch work defense. The captain loves him but its just a matter of time the younger stars get tired of his coaching style a ask to leave.
