No, shouldn't be relying on the cycle game against these guys..

At the least I hope there is an added focus on springing a guy while their D is pinching. They pinched on us all game, which I honestly did not see coming from a Tortorella coached team against a team like TO who loves to stretch the puck. There's no way that should fly...

- joel878

That’s another reason I’d to see Sandin. We need more speed on D to neutralize their forecheck and to look for those outlet passes. I don’t know how many times I saw our guy get back there and then you could almost see him thinking about what play to make when the forechecker got there spand we 3nded up losing the puck.

I’m just choosing this post to quote. How do you know about these Mass breweries? Most times when I talk to people not from New England, they laugh when I say we have some of the best breweries and just go HAHA BUD LIGHT! So ridiculous
- RickJames77

A bunch of my work buds and a few of my close friends are hardcore beer aficionados (their Untappd profiles make mine look entirely reasonable). One of them is obsessed with New England IPAs and has brought back all kinds of good stuff from the area.

I've got another friend in BC who brings West Coast brews on occasion though I'm not quite as enthused about breweries from that side of the country... then again, I haven't tried quite as many from those parts.

Always looking for suggestions though! To be honest, I'm not actually that pretentious about it -- it's just a fun hobby to try new beers instead of drinking the same old swill.

If the Leafs go down 0-2 in the series I'd be happy to throw Sandin out there to give him a taste.

My biggest concern with Sandin is how much his game changed when the intensity ramped up for him. He got a little giveaway prone and seemed to get bullied a bit. I can see a team like Columbus eating him alive.

If the blueline were structured right and Ceci sits... I'm game to try it out though.

That’s awesome. Off the top of your head, do you know what you’ve had from Tree House, Trillium or Hill?

Very Green, Very Hazy, King Julius, Doubleganger, Headroom...any of those?

Yeah, I don’t know what the pairings would be and the downside is when they do get the cycle going but we need to generate more offense and we need to take their forecheck away

Marner was not focused tonight. I think this kid needs to be coached.

Kappy was a disaster. Fly bys all over the ice.

Gauthier, Spezza, Holl, Ceci, and even Muzzin looked like they put on covid-19lbs.

Mykhaev, Nylander, and Tavares seemed to be sucking wind all night when they werent eating the ice with a Columbus d-mans glove in the back of their neck.

Hyman was utterly invisible.

I liked Matthews and Riellys game.

Freddy was good. But you have to make that save.

Take Clifford out.

Engvall Spezza Petan

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Taking Clifford out is not going to change much. Marner needs to be much better or the outcome will not be good. Jones and Werenski were solid but played heavy minutes. Why not dump it into Jones' corner and lay the heavy hit. Do it 10 times and he won't be crosschecking the (frank) out of Matthews by the third period. All of Tavares, Hyman and Dermott played sub par.

Ceci was the worst, took 2 lousy penalties.

Rielly-Barrie
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Holl

Maybe swap Barrie and Dermott.

I don’t think we’re going to out cycle Columbus. Robertson had the only real scoring chance other than AM and I thought at times that line outplayed CBJ.

They’re going to have to figure out how to play high skill at speed to beat these guys. That’s hard to do after being off.

He looked pretty good, for sure, and don't expect him to sit unless Mango is back.
Envgall subbed for Goat might not be a terrible idea. But for 4 minutes a night, why bother?

I'd actually be into dermott with Rielly...

Barrie with muzzin was disaster stuff though, and I definitely don't feel comfy with Sandin and Barrie.

Barrie is worse defensively than Jake Gardiner was. There... I said it.

Is tavares nmc/ntc? Regardless of the outcome of this series, Columbus and Toronto ate natural trading partners. Each has what the other lacks. Tavares/Marner for Werenski/Jones as an opening offer.

Well I really, really hope this is one game rust and they pull it together Tuesday. I have this uneasy feeling though. Columbus made a really good team look bad last year.

I agree, the Kerfoot line was ok, liked Robertson. I thought next to Matthews, Nylander was the most engaged leaf, went to dirty areas, took some wacks and got a chance or two. Marner and JT were passengers. Ceci was a disaster, and Andersen was good, but that goal had a Bernier odour to it. It was both a softie and came after the Leafs had just pounded the piss out of Korpisalo on the previous shift.

I have no excuses.

But to my eyetest Tavares and Marner were pretty useless out there tonight
What would you give up for Werenski/Jones if, in some parallel universe, they were in play?

I'd do Marner for Jones. I would. They'd never have both in play, ever.

Rodger, Rodger, where are you? Oh must be past your bedtime.

Nothing against the rest of you Leaf Fans but unfortunately Rodger is a big troll with a big mouth and he needs to realize he needs to shut his mouth.

Columbus is not trading Jones. Bigger issue is salary - Marner has to show a little better effort in the playoffs before he is even worth his contract, so his trade value is limited. He's no where near the quality of Matthews yet he makes virtually the same money. The willingness to take a hit or go to dirty areas doesn't seem to be there,
