Maybe. But I recall thinking that the Leafs essentially got a franchise player for free in Tavares. As in not giving up any assets to acquire him. Just alot of Cap space.
I thought the Leafs were playing with house money. So I expected Nylander to be traded within the following week. For a Hamilton or Pesce. Or whoever. Not give him away for any defenseman.
Anyway it doesn't really matter now. It's clear Dubas isn't trading Nylander. - gergeswillems
Nylander was the second best forward in game 1 IMO. Had and created several good scoring chances and his line was playing against Columbus' best all night. I don't see him being dealt. Trading for d-men is tough, and getting a decent UFA and dropping salary via trade is probably easier to do. |

We could easily deal Marner for a very good young dman that has a contract in same neighbourhood as Marner's.
Then hope that Robertson + new dman > Marner. - Atomic Wedgie
I want marner to stay and trade Robertson. |

I agree ..only variable that might come in to play is that this Covid poop might mean another short/weird season for 20/21. A short off-season and weird season might make it better just to wait until next summer.
But I agree .. another first round exit ..and the Cap constraints ...likely mean that some changes are coming. - The Law
The problem is (according to the Athletic) the Leafs are going to be OK cap-wise for the 2020-21 season (whenever that is), but then they are absolutely franked the next year.

For sure. Kids have to show they give a (frank) - bixll
Yes.
And show they give a fack every game after that as well.
They can show it for one game, imo the problem is showing it on a consistent basis.
But thats just my opinion |

Who?
I'm asking that with an open mind.
I see Ekblad... But I don't see Florida being a team to take on Marners contract. |

A top 5 NHL goalie. Him with Campbell in a 1A and 1 B is perfect. - RogerRoeper
Same career sv% as Freddie, but if he’s cheaper I’m game. |

They have some good assets.
Their great assets wont be traded. - Fakepartofme
I agree, but that could possibly change if they are eliminated and by some Oiler-esque fluke get Laffy.

Now check last 2 seasons...Vezina runner-up which Frdddy has never done.
And you know how people say Freddy's save % isn't great because of Leafs D? Well Lehner played with a worse D this year and posted .920 % |

After back to back cup wins, it wont matter.
Blow it up then.
I mean its easy winning back to back cups right?
Theyve mastered getting booted in the first round for several years, i think they can manage this.

No, you arent getting much.
Not a top 4 d.
Unless its a cap dump or a cap dump goes the other way.
You would get a good d prospect and a pick. |

I'd go the Sandin + Johnsson + prospect/pick route personally. I understand that's an unpopular opinion, but LHD is not where we need the help. That, and unless Sandin is top pair worthy within a few years, he doesn't fit the window the team is shooting for... |

Robertson and a 1st rounder won't get you much? Seriously? Dubas paid much less than that to get Muzzin.

I still think it's more likely that Kapanen and/or Johnsson are moved and that space is used to upgrade the D.
But, if that magic unicorn is out there (the young affordable partner for Rielly) then I wouldn't see Dubas having any hesitation moving Willie.
Mikheyev has shown enough and Robertson has the potential ..to work their way up the lineup. - The Law
exactly this for me...Dubas would have to be sent an offer he couldnt pass on.

🤷🏻♂️ Seems most goalies are putting up good #’s for the Isles.
Not going to debate goaltending - lack of defense with you today, just going to cheer for the guys we have at the moment. |

I have no idea.
Last few years, I've watched nothing but Leafs games. I simply don't have a feel for other teams' players.
I come up with the ideas - it's Dubas' job to fill in the details.
