🤷🏻‍♂️ Seems most goalies are putting up good #’s for the Isles.
Not going to debate goaltending - lack of defense with you today, just going to cheer for the guys we have at the moment. - Garnie
Now explain his numbers in Chicago, which is the polar opposite situation..

If you want to go all in, Ekblad might be the answer. Florida is in big financial trouble and I don't mean the cap.
$ to coach Q and Bob has been a disaster. BEFORE COVID it was reported they needed to cut 10 million off payroll |

Now check last 2 seasons...Vezina runner-up which Frdddy has never done.
And you know how people say Freddy's save % isn't great because of Leafs D? Well Lehner played with a worse D this year and posted .920 % - RogerRoeper
Oh, Hawks had a bunch of injuries to their best D this year, I was unaware.
Weird that Freddie’s dropped drastically the year we plug in guys who’ve barley played in the league.
Anyways, believe what you want...đź‘Ť
I’m not stuck on anyone not named Austin Matthews. |

I've already posted this a lot, but 5 on 5 Leafs had their best defensive numbers under Keefe than they ever did in 5 years with Babcock.
Even when Freddy has a great year for him, he's still not a top goalie at all. He had the same numbers in Anaheim he has had 3 out of 4 years in Toronto. |

The problem is (according to the Athletic) the Leafs are going to be OK cap-wise for the 2020-21 season (whenever that is), but then they are absolutely franked the next year. - Atomic Wedgie
Ya, although "(frank)ed" means they'll have to juggle some assets.
Andersen and Hyman will be up. They'll probably have to find some goalies on the cheap (or move some money) ..and they'll probably have to move a forward if they want to re-sign Hyman.
The good part is that the contracts they have are all pretty good. No anchors on board right now.

I have no idea.
Last few years, I've watched nothing but Leafs games. I simply don't have a feel for other teams' players.
I come up with the ideas - it's Dubas' job to fill in the details. - Atomic Wedgie
Oh.
Well I suppose when I assumed that you were being a smart ass about the free agency suggestion that meant you would have more to offer than the whole trade Marner for a unicorn suggestion that anyone who's ever watched a single Leaf game could have come up with. Perhaps I gave you to much credit.
I'm all about finally fixing the blueline. But if it's the dumbas and ristolainens of the league that are coming back... The team doesn't have to trade Marner to accomplish that. They just don't.
I've yet to see anything remotely possible that would make trading one of the teams best players a practical idea. |

People do that a lot here.
As per your last line, the Leafs are going to be franked against the cap in two years, have a surplus of forwards, and what fans of every other team generally recognize as a weak defensive corps.
We are going to need to subtract before we can add. |

I'd go the Sandin + Johnsson + prospect/pick route personally. I understand that's an unpopular opinion, but LHD is not where we need the help. That, and unless Sandin is top pair worthy within a few years, he doesn't fit the window the team is shooting for... - joel878
I remember a time where good dmen could play both left and right side.
Leafs really cant afford to move sandin, he could be good and cheap for the next little while

I am happy the team is, as least, competitive. They will improve. Very young team. |

Bullpoop. His contract was coming-up that takes away his value. He is now signed through his prime and has much better stats. You are wrong.
Have you noticed teams don't trade talented 1st liners at that age other than maybe Chiarelli? - RogerRoeper

With the cap concerns, i feel the leafs will always be a piece or 2 away.

I agree with that assessment, Im just of the variety who thinks that can be accomplished without dumping someone like Marner.
I think it would almost be more difficult to go that route, as it requires finding a team that not only has the defenseman we need, but can absorb a significant portion of that 11 million without having to send a boatload of salary back. Because there's no point if you're dumping Marner for significant salary in return.
The leafs aren't the only team who are going to be tight on the cap, a good portion of the league will. The Kerfoot, kapanen, johnsson contracts are the ones that are market friendly at that point.
I also don't believe they need to hit a home run to address the blueline. It doesn't need to be a 23 year old Drew Doughty who's making huge money... A signing like Hamonic and trade for another solid two way defenseman would really balance the pairings. |

I don’t think so, build from the net out. Concentrate on D who can play at both ends and you don’t need to score 6 every night to win. |
