With the cap concerns, i feel the leafs will always be a piece or 2 away.
Should have went all in the last year MnM were on their elc.
Ah well. - Fakepartofme
Just a note on that... Gards has been more than adequate for Carolina and yet got run out of town on a rail... could it be that Leafs just didn’t have him slotted correctly ? Sure he’s not perfect but what d man is ? I can’t help but think he’d be better than Ceci or even Barrie - |

Gards has been terrible in Lina. Sheltered minutes and lots of giveaways. |

That wont be enough to get ekblad. - Fakepartofme
Kapanen gets you Pesce.
Nylander gets Ekblad.

Has he been adequate for Carolina? Not that +/- is the be all and end all, but I remember him being like a - 26 in the regular season. That's a bad look on a team with a blueline as respectable as Carolinas.
That, and Carolinas blueline is respectable... He should be better than he was in Toronto, he's got it far easier. |

Gardiner is being used as a #5 D essentially and his numbers still aren't good. That was more his issue in Toronto, he played far too much,. The more minutes he plays the more mistakes you'll see. He's playing less this year than anytime in his career.
Leafs had him playing top minutes in a game 7 2 years ago. He was -5 in that game.
He still doesn't look the same since his back injury. |

Not the two Ranger games I saw.. perhaps sheltered but more than adequate.
Just seems to me the guy that can make excellent stretch passes be OK in his own end, Would be someone the Leafs could use right now. |

He was great for us in 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019... |

I watched Carolinas first game... Didn't see the second. I felt he was more capable than Barrie is in his own end.
That's not really a compliment to either guy. |

Ekblad isn't the answer for me. He's got some defensive issues to. Definitely not as bad as Barrie... |

Yeah he's been a disappointment for a #1 overall, but I do like him a lot. And he's still only 24. |

Im not upset he's gone, and I can't wait until Barrie and Ceci are.
Hope they don't replace them with total cans. |

His last three years as a Leaf he had 125 points & was +52...
it seems that Leafs could find a place / use a guy like that. |

For the right price I'd be willing to take that swing. I don't think Florida would trade him without something that looks like Nylander + Dermott though, and that's a price tag I'm not interested in.
I don't get paid to make the decisions though, so that's easy for me to say. 🤷♂️ |

Parayko would be a great partner for Rielly. Hard for me to find a reason STL would want to move him though. |

you could trade for picks. - bixll
Then we are back to the 90s leafs moving out picks for large contract players
Plus the leafs would still have to move out players for cap reasons |

Now do his playoff numbers in Toronto.
If memory serves me, there's quite a shift there... |

They'd want Nylander bad because most of his actual money is now paid.

Toronto media asking Keefe "how Nylander can get involved" vs. "What more can we expect from Marner?" tells you everything you need to know.

Yep, asking players to show up for the playoffs, thats when you know your team is screwed.... |
