He's good, has had a few concussions which is worrisome for a big d-man. 41 points is his top season after 6 years and he gets more playing time than any player on that team. His numbers to date don't justify his 1st overall selection over Draisaitl. JMO - winsix
Not sure we can find better to be honest. OEL I think will be available, but he LH D.
The more I think about it the more I think they will trade out AJ(odd man out) with Robinson ready for a cheap D. (2-3 million)Then sign an FA who is squeezed out of a good contract because of the flat cap. Let’s go with Gudas. You go into next season with
Muzzin-Holl
Rielly-Trade D
Sandin-Gudas
Dermott-Lehtonen
Might be time to put the top end D dream away. - Santo_44
Rielly is te only good D Leafs have right now.
Sandin and Liljegren good young prospects.
Holl a decent bottom line guy, he's playing better than I thought.
Muzzin is still meh - I don't think he fits at all on this team, and he really doesn't bring that much physicality, he's too slow and he's quite bad on the PK as well.
Dermott can be on the 3rd d-pairing with Holl.
So far, Leafs have:
Rielly - ??
Muzzin - ??
Dermott - Holl
prospects: Sandin, Liljegren.
Dermott and Sandin can slide in on the left D side.
Seems obvious that the RHD side needs to be addressed.
Johnsson, Kerfoot, Muzzin, Dermott, Kapanen and even Nylander should all be considered in a trade imo.

I agree with your first sentence. But I can see the Leafs trading him if the Leafs fail miserably this post season. But that's really the only way I see it happening.
Marner has to step his game up big time. He was really bad last game. Hyman wasn't good either but I don't expect him to have two bad games in a row. And I'd bench Holl. - GreatGigInTheSky
I agree with most of this, for me the two worst d-men in Game 1 were Ceci - 2 stupid lazy penalties and not much help to Rielly and Dermott. That play where Dermott got lapped by the Columbus forward when he pinched might have been the ugliest play of the night.

You want to talk about bad looks, how about Sam Reinhart being taken before Draisaitl. Yikes.
Leafs did good with Willie 8th there. Hindsight is beautiful but the only players I'm taking ahead of Willie out of that draft are Draisaitl and Ekblad.

As Scabeh correctly pointed out, I doubt Ekblad is made available by Florida, and there is also a risk involved. The best available might be Pietrangelo. There will be a bidding war for sure, and St. Louis will be the heavy favourite but that player might be worth dropping a salary or two for.

I believe you might know this song, but the video may seem strange

Those guys are just so smooooooth, although they look like a bunch of accountants on their lunch break. Funny coincidence is that for a couple of years all I really listened to was jazz and bluegrass. Not sure what was going on in my life then.

Holl has been a top 4 D when you look at the stats. Why?
Well why does every D man look better with Muzzin? Coincidence? Not a (frank)ing chance.

Agree.
Steal of the draft has to be Pastrnak at #25. He could be backing up the truck when his next contract is signed at age 27.
Ceci and Rielly have been fine ever since the Muzzin/Holl pairing has become the shutdown pairing. - Santo_44
Disagree. Rielly has clearly been better but Ceci is a massive liability. Ceci with Rielly means he's getting way more minutes than we can afford to have him on the ice.

Sorry to disappoint you. That video is of the famous song "take five" by Dave Brubeck originally recorded in 1964. The actual music was from a song by the British punk group the Stranglers. The editing is actually very nicely done. I am sure many people asked what is Dave Brubeck doing a cover of the Stranglers for?

Ceci is one of the dumbest players I've ever seen play in terms of on ice IQ. Jack Johnson is the worst, but at least he had a few years where he could play 90% in the O-Zone before people caught on.

I’m not throwing that idea out the window but I see Dubas’s focus on finding a couple D man he can get for a combined 4 million that are good fits. - Santo_44
It’s so hard to know what the market is going to be like when things open up. Besides the flat cap, what are franchises projecting about actual revenues and what they can realistically afford to spend? Will UFA look to short term deals and take a chance at injury or decline in play?
