Marner has about as good of a chance of being traded as Matthews. It's a little overly dramatic to want to die on that hill after one 1-0 loss. Just a little...

One loss? It’s been four years, ffs! (two with Tavares)

Fine, keep doing the same thing and expect different results. What was that called again...?

First period of the Lightning game is done. Lightning looked like they had the jump on Washington for most of the period. Just faster to pucks and finishing checks effectively. Nasty Kucherov goal is the difference so far. Vasi looks sharp.

I think part of your issue clearly may have been expecting them to win cups when their best players couldn't even grow beards yet.

These guys aren't even close to 25 years of age yet, and the argument is that they haven't been able to do it yet... So blow it up?

You need to relax my friend.

Most of the core is just entering their primes. Way too early still.

Trading away one of the big four isn’t blowing it up... 🤦‍♂️

It's such a coincidence that it's the players with a history of being dirty that have these "accidents"

They were always "just finishing a check".

- Leafs43

Even if Tkachuk didn't mean to get his skate into the leg, it was still going to be a dangerous trip. And it's crazy how often Tkachuk and players similar to him just seem to be so "unlucky" with plays like this. They put themselves in bad positions constantly and then end results are always worse for the other player and then Tkachuk, Matt Cooke, other guys like that, always claim they didn't mean to do *that* they just meant to trip, slew foot, make a bad check, whatever and it results in something horrible.

Off the top of my head I can think of 2 slew foots (Davidson and Marincin).

It doesn't matter if it was "intentional". It happens with him time after time. And almost always with top players. Yet people constantly defend him because he didn't "mean" to.

With all due respect, I'm not willing to accept that last part as fact just because you say so.

There's plenty of opportunity to fix the blueline without going down that road. Excellent free agent crop, trading off the johnsson/Kerfoot types. I just don't see the desperation to sell off on one of your best players. 🤷‍♂️

If the Leafs lose to the Jackets, and we get the opportunity to trade Marner for his equivalent on defense, I would do it in a heartbeat.

It's a pretty dramatic core change yup.

Calgary hasn't done poop, I don't see their fanbase losing it to trade Tkachuk, Monahan, etc. I really can't think of any teams who haven't gone deep and are demanding their young stars be moved because of it.

I won't say I wouldn't do it... I will say I don't think there's a need to do it. There are other avenues to shore up the defense. I also really don't see that opportunity being presented. Who is this equivalent on defense? Seth Jones? Columbus is not trading Seth Jones...

I agree in hypothetical world. But I’m not sure what equivalent guy is out there that someone might trade. And you can’t. “lose” a trade like that when you’re moving someone who might turn into a superstar

Are you implying trading a 27 year old Gaudreau is on par with trading a 22 year old Marner?

Wait.

Who are we talking about now?

This could apply to quite a few Leaf players.

For that argument to be valid, you'd really have to commit to the idea that Marner has hit his ceiling.

Marner is 22 and under contract for another 5 years. Gaudreau is nearing unrestricted free agency... Just a little bit of a different situation.

17 points in 21 games for a guy his age isnt a perennial underachiever. You had a poop night last night. You're wife ragged and slapped you around. Dont take it out on Marner because your anger at the game (frank)ed your life up. You're acting like a right twat mate with this poop. Go Hall for Larsson somewhere else.
