I see the flaws in the stat. I see flaws at least as bad in putting much stock in Corsi or Fenwick or whatever.

At the end of the day, we can all think Matthews was great because he scored 5 goals, playing predominantly against the second line... but he was on the ice for 8 ES goals against, and still only played at a 70 pt. pace. That is not even in the ballpark of what we should expect for that contract.

Leafs fans, just like the Leafs players, are really good at ignoring the fact that there are 2 ends to the ice.

And just for some context of those 8 ES GA he was on the ice for against the B's ...4 were empty netters. He was good last year ...but I agree I wanted more.

For him to earn the contract I'm expecting him to get the better of Chara and Jones more often then not.

Ditto for JT, MM and WN.
