Since Tripp Tracy has started his own podcast, one of the stories that has been coming out that may interest you guys is that Teravainen apparently HATES to practice. Like, hates hates it.

Apparently he and Brind'amour have an understanding that he can give 75% or whatever in practice so long as he doesn't slack off in the weight room or in games.

Brind'amour loves his attention to detail and his competitiveness in games, so lets him get away with maybe not practicing as hard as he could.

Verrrry interesting

Well, it was widely suspected that his perceived lack of dedication to his craft when off the ice cost him his job on the team.

What i do know and i really appreciate is Dach plays defense and in front of the play unlike Strome who is always behind the play. He definitely will keep getting minutes as my coach always preached defense and effort never slump
- BetweenTheDots

That’s why Strome is not long for Chicago. Toews and Dach are the top 2 centers in Chicago NOW and starting next year. I really think Strome is not suited as a 3rd line center. I hope Barrett can step into that role sooner than later. Strome’s skating hurts him some, as 19 and 77 are much better skaters than him.

I didn’t see it as a knee-on-knee collision - but I’ll try to watch a replay again and look for that.
- Chief4Feathers

Their skates made contact and Ennis’ foot got torqued around awkwardly, I’m guessing he tore something in the knee or ankle. Based on the pain level, I’d think torn rather than sprained.

Did the official scoring get changed on the winning goal from Murphy to Toews? I thought is glanced off Toews from the replay last night but then is was attributed to Murphy so I thought the camera angle might have fooled me.

It should be Bear, hahaha, i don't think it touched Toews
- BetweenTheDots

Yep, Bear definitely touched but I thought is glanced off Toews after that. I know it doesn't matter, just curious.

It seemed to graze Toews’ uniform - changing direction as it passed him.
- StLBravesFan

OK - you saw the same thing I did. The box score now says Toews goal with Murphy and Keith assisting.

I saw it hit Toews’ knee on the first replay. He should have gotten the goal.

I wouldn't count Seabrook out at this point. He is very focused and determined to come back, and he'll have at least four more months to fully rehab.

Shot went off Bear's stick, then glanced off edge of Toews knee and into the goal. It was very clearly (slightly) redirected when going past Toews knee, so obviously it hit it. That would have to be the replay used to credit Toews with the goal, which he deserved.

To be honest, I can't believe the announcers didn't see that, unless they are looking at a super small computer screen. I thought it was Toews goal all along after seeing the replay.

Oilers team that lost just once in regulation (29-1-2) during the regular season when leading after two periods...impressive

It was a knee on knee, not intentional by Dach.

Ennis likely torn ACL/MCL.

I'm a bit worried about my guy Boqvist he really seems timid out there
- BetweenTheDots

Won't go anywhere without holding Keith's hand terrible spacing. Keith threw him a pass behind Hawks net last night crucial point end of game and he handled it like a pee wee player they were very lucky then too.

I can see Strome being dealt for another former 1st round pick, just not him. Maybe Roslovic from Winnipeg?

Guessing a lot of the extra moves is because the forwards aren't getting or can't get open. If the forwards can get open consistently, then outlet passes to quickly clear the zone would get the Hawks out of the danger zone.

There are also times when players over handle the puck inches from clearing the zone and either cough up the puck or are really close to doing so which extends time in purgatory between defending and transitioning.

Again, if teammates can get open for each other, that would be huge to relieve pressure and generate a faster transition game to get the other team on its heels.

Otherwise, it's a lot easier to defend against a slowly developing transition. That's telegraph central.

The Oilers have made Kubalik look slow the last two games. Saad is breaking away better.

Agree, Strome is not a 3C unless he somehow improves his defense significantly and leverages his offensive skills, vision, and IQ more to offset his lack of foot speed.

Otherwise, it would be worth exploring other options. Kurashev has great potential with his solid 3-zone play, skating ability, compete level, and capacity to contribute around a 0.50 PPG pace.

Down the line, Wise could be an option if he continues to develop at BU then marinate a bit in the AHL. His skillset is similar to Kurashev's but injuries have derailed his trajectory.

The draft is another area. This is where I wouldn't discount Lundell at the 9th spot or later (if he's still available). By most accounts, he seems NHL ready and projected to be at least a solid 3C with a 2C ceiling.

Either way, if Strome is not extended, his replacement should be a middle 6 center so that over time Dach goes up to 1C and Toews down to 3C. Even if Toews ends his career as a 2C, then that's just a big plus. The replacement plays either 2C or 3C.

The play-in and hopefully extended playoffs is going to contribute significantly to Strome's next contract. He is not providing much value. Someone else suggested it but could see a one-year "show me" deal being an option.

That buys time for a center prospect like Kurashev to marinate for one more year and/or see if any gem pivots are selected in the draft. Lundell would be perfect as a middle 6 center.

Nylander has at least one more season to improve to prove his worth or else cut bait with him when he hits free agency. Not sure what he would garner in a trade.

Agree, DeBrincat needs to be deployed as and put in situations where he is a sniper. I disagree that he plays small, though, as he is willing to engage physically.

Thanks for agreeing that something is off with crow. I know he started to get better right before the shutdown, but this season he hasn't been or found his elite level he once played with. Maybe those injuries with all that time off is affecting his confidence or skill.

It's been frustrating to watch at times because his rebound controls and his shakiness leads me to think something deeper going on. Everyone can acknowledge our defense isn't the best but crows play hasn't risen to the level that one could then say the blame is all on the defense.

When he fell behind the net last night he looked so shakey. Crows been known to be strong with his puck handling.

- Taylorst1

Covid can knock you off balance, hurt you endurance he was probably never the athlete the skaters are and he's 36, not 19. He was a little better last night can't seem to control pucks when he's down. Defense clears or they score. McDavid took one right off his pads he didn't grab it.

Or Strome to the Sabres for former 1st rounder Mittelstadt. Bowman loves his reclamation projects.

Someone suggested trading Strome to the Habs. Montreal has a surplus of centers (i.e. Domi, Danault, Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, Poehling) so not sure if that fills a need for them but wouldn't mind a 1-for-1 swap of Strome for Domi, Suzuki, or Poehling.

The Habs wouldn't trade Danault or Kotkaniemi. Possibly Suzuki, too, the way he is surging.
